I was in a retail establishment (I won't say where) and the woman serving me had a name tag giving a Persian-sounding name, which is pretty common in California. I enjoy names and languages, so I asked if she was from Iran. She was impressed that such a gringo could guess that, and suddenly very friendly. We chatted a bit and then she told me that she was originally Muslim, but had converted and was a born-again Christian now. That was quite startling, because Islam requires death for anyone who attempts to escape Islam. But she didn't look worried, and this is California, not Iran. Maybe some wacko in her own family might get her, but not the majority of people or the government, as in Iran:

She's pretty brave anyway, and maybe this post will help someone else. I think it's very important to publicize instances of Muslims converting away from Islam.

Need to move away from large organized religions. Max 100 million followers. Though muslims r brutal, Christians been killing others also. Ww1 , ww2 , Jews extermination, local population extermination in USA and Australia, chemical throwing in vietnam. Do'nt forget evslavement n imperiallism since 1500s of the world. Look for option that is better for humanity.

That is somewhat doubtful, Persians I know here in US are fairly liberal with respect to religion, may be even somewhat atheistic. In our university there is a large contingent of Persian students, and girls tend to wear enlarged belts as skirts, leaving little to imagination. This does not look very Islamic and parents/relatives/boyfriends are OK with that. In contrast, Arabic and Pakistani women (not all, but a very significant proportion) wrap themselves in ridiculous burka-style outfits.

Shiite vs Sunni.
Shiites mostly consider religious observance to be within Islam and for Muslims. Sunnis look at infidels and just see criminals.
