The president clearly signaled several important messages.

1) Infrastructure spending 1.X trillion.
2) rebuilding detroit
3) more jobs and higher wages.

It all means much better economy, but also means it's an investment opportunity. Opportunity to invest into America, and to make money doing so.

What's everyones ideas and tips on investing?

What do people buy during boom times?
Homes
Cars
Vacations.

Anything to do with construction is a winner.

This won't help you. I'll keep investing in my wife. She's in an industry that does well with infrastructure investment. I will do well on multiple fronts ;)

If you use the state of the union speech to influence your stock picks, I worry for you.

@Bay Area - hit the wrong button and it won't undo. That was supposed to be a like on comment 5.

You almost ruined my day, glad to see the clarification sir ?

I would just invest in index funds. Everything is going to go up.

On a side note don't look around too closely but we just may be in the early stages of a correction in both stocks and the economy.

Really, DOW is up 200 right now, the last two days was just profit taking. It was up close to 2000 points for the month (and UP 6000 the last year), so taking a dip of 400 - 500 was a nothing burger.

It's called a Trump Bump - buy weapons makers - it's a sure bet.

Certainly is a sure bet, I already did. I'm up over 30% on them.

I'll take that gain, every day!

There will be a correction in things

There always is, and the next one is past due, it just depends what's done in between them with the money. I'll take the gains in between, because the corrections are minor, while the gains are YYYUUUGGGEEEEEEEEEEE.

Again what I do with my investments is of absolutely no concern to anyone and I am not given to going on a public forum to embellish my accomplishments.

I'm thinking of taking my gains from the last year and buying an RV before the next correction. It's like having FREE money.

Sniper and anonymous, calm it down guys. Edit your post and they can go back up.

errr, same goes to you. Don't direct posts at other people. We'll handle it if it's out of bounds.

How I am invested is between myself and the IRS and of no concern to anyone else. I can't spend or enjoy someone else's gains or loss and they can't enjoy mine.

There will be a correction in things - patience has it's own rewards.

Are you predicting a 30 year bull market? I'm confused. Just invest in a S&P 500 index fund and call it a day.

There are ways to get rich quick, most of them end up in you being poor quick.
13   lostand confused   2018 Feb 1, 6:22am

Is the long overdue correction here? Lets see if this is a minor blip-yesterday went up 224 points and then settled at 72+ this after a 300+ drop.

I think it's just some profit taking, after a long run up, some may just want to take some cash.

Market opened down this morning, and right now is in the green by a little.

"Do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing". This applies to many things..

Except when making love. That could get awkward if you don't know what your hands are doing. Or at least one of them.

yes, everyone knows markets only go UP, just like housing. After a 35% increase, the market corrects 4%. For those following along from home, that means you're still up 31% for the year. Oh, the horror, time to panic!!

For those of you NOT in the market, the good news, you didn't LOSE 4% (but you also didn't GAIN the 35%).

———————

100 + 35= 135

135 x 0.96 = 129.6

After a 35% rise, a 4% correction only leaves you up 29.6%. Most people seem to struggle mightily with this, but those of us investing big bucks, that 1.4 is yuge. I’m sure for those merely following along at home, it’s of no significance. When the Eagles win the Super Bowl tomorrow and demolish their city on Monday, the market will follow thru with another 1,000 point drip before the parade is over, and then the math will get even worse.

Yep, specially when you invest in ARLP, every penny counts when you're losing money.

Are you a fan or actually believe they'll win? Not saying they can't, but there's just too much experience on the other sideline for me to have faith the Eagles can win it if you ask me, and you weren't.

Outside of the Chicago Bears, I don't really care who wins, so I don't have a horse in this race today. The Bears have sucked for a while now, so my interest in the NFL has waned quite a bit.
23   MAGA   2018 Feb 4, 6:59am

I am 100% out of the market. I made some money and I am happy. I am leaving most of my estate to charities that I support so that is why I did not want to put my money at risk.

I’m a gambler, i hold no fandom. Living in the megalopolis that is Philadelphia, you grow to either love or hate the birds(and their fans) and I’ve always been a hater. This year is different, had a lot of fun watching this team all year, and winning five figures betting them so far this season, I’m going to be a fan today. I also think they win outright (+170) but for the faint of heart, the +4.5 should be safe. Also have a few juicy Clement props, and the t smith longshot 25/1 for first TD. He was on the field in the hargaugh bros SB when i had A. Bolden large for first TD and it hit.

Patriots hold a special place in my heart, they’ve treated me very well over the years. Beginning with ol Toms first SB when books weren’t so scared of being arbed to death. We found two conflicting offers at two seperat shops and went max limit bets for literally free money.

First prop was
WILL THERE BE A MISSED OR BLOCKED FG
Yes +120
No -100

The second was
Will Vinatieri miss a FG
Yes -100
No +120

Rams opening drive stalled around the 35 and they attempted a long fg that missed, so now all we needed was vinatieri not to miss a fg. Well he didn’t attempt one until the game was tied with under a minute left, looking like we might see the first SB OT, but he fucking nailed an ~50 yarder for the win and we hit the best bet in the history of bets. It was glorious

I doubt you’ll find conflicting offers like that in the modern day, this was feb ‘02. And I don’t have the 50 hours to pour into scouring different offers from different shops anymore either, because that’s what it took to find something so obscure. Then of course it took some posturing to get that much action on an obscure prop bet because they’re usually 500 max and you will bring suspicion to any book paying attention, trying to pile five figures on a SB fg kicker prop bet lol. I miss the good old days.

Fantastic time to dollar cost avg into Crypto. Big discounts at the moment. We will see a trillion dollar market cap for crypto by the end of 2018.

It seems a better question was Which stocks to short after the SOTU.
27   MisdemeanorRebel   2018 Feb 5, 1:24pm

Buy CME. If we pull out of NAFTA, volume is going to explode. We'll have a manufacturing and agra boom like you've never seen.
28   anonymous   2018 Feb 5, 1:30pm

Maybe wait to buy stocks until the correction is over? Dow Looks a bit shaky, no?
29   anonymous   2018 Feb 5, 5:15pm

Hard to get an RV with only $15K invested.
