Just wanted to ask the membership what they think of the new forum rules and the discussions 4 weeks in. My personal opinion is that it seems that there are far LESS outright back and forth troll wars and much more readable discussions from BOTH left or right posters. Some good contributions from jazz_music, Sniper, TwoScoops, and besides the random anon that will sometimes bust in for a troll comment, it's been pretty clean. I think this is working out pretty well.

Please any input appreciated from the membership.

Keep it clean and civil though. Thanks!

I agree. There is more civility and I think the discussions are more productive.

It works well enought that I'm going to require every post (thread) have a hashtag from one of the top 10 topics, and so every comment will have some moderator or other.

It only took a month but I don't think I'm the most hated on the site now (crossing fingers).

I noticed there was a new sub menu to moderate "anon" comments last night, but then disappeared.

Yes, if there are comment to moderate in #politics then the politics moderator (you) will see that link.

If I moderate (approve or delete) the comments first, then the link will go away.

Just curious, but when did the threshold go from "ad hominem" to "incivility"? While there is plenty of overlap between the two they are not the same. Again, is this is now the official Patnet policy?
6   Patrick   2017 Dec 4, 9:32am

For me, they are pretty much the same.

If you're attacking the user rather than sticking to attacking his point, that's my definition of incivility.

As an added bonus, it helps me using less profanity. I don't mind it used at the right time, but we def see an overuse these days and it is especially troubling - and highly unsexy - in women where the left has promoted this "you go grrl and can't do anything wrong" mentality, to their detriment as they fall for this bs. A woman with an unclassy, potty mouth outside of the bedroom is a huge turn-off. Had to twist a shiv against the left in here ;)

Why?

To demonstrate what the new ‘civil’ Patnet is all about?

We're just having good fun on here.

2 up 4 down. Your question has been answered
12   FNWGMOBDVZXDNW   2017 Dec 4, 11:32am

Civility is up a bit, but still terrible frankly. The site is less useful / interesting with less posters. I posted anon for a while to contribute without all of the past baggage attached. However, it's clear that anons are 3rd class citizens around here, so that's pretty useless. If this were posted under anon, it would not make it through the filter.

We are a lot tougher on anon comments since most of them are meant to troll without repercussion.
14   Goran_K   2017 Dec 4, 11:39am

errrc, did you mark my comment as uncivil?
15   Patrick   2017 Dec 4, 11:42am

He did, and I liberated it and suspended his ability to mark comments uncivil.

Your comment was not uncivil.

3 up and 6 down now.

What are the complaints about the new system? Or is it just "we don't like moderation"?

Then Patrick flipped the script, and he wanted to squash any differing opinions and free thought, so that he could make this a Free Space for Trumpcucks to play in their own feces, and appointed a hard right moderator to chase off anyone who isn’t toeing the Trumpcuck narrative.

Uh. No.

You simply don't know how to play nice errc. Need I remind you of your blatant racist and bigoted attacks?

This is the stuff we're trying to stop. You can be a leftist all day, but your personal attacks are especially vicious and crude. If you play nice, your comments don't have to get deleted.
19   anonymous   2017 Dec 4, 1:43pm

Look if you are ashamed about the shape of your families eyes, there’s nothing I can do to help you. Maybe you should have married white. Diversity is BAD
20   HappyGilmore   2017 Dec 4, 1:46pm

It's not racist if it's true, right?
21   anonymous   2017 Dec 4, 1:48pm

As Patrick and other Trumpcucks have said here before, racism doesn’t exist.

Shame and regret are obviously very real. Sad
22   Goran_K   2017 Dec 4, 2:03pm

Above is proof of why moderation makes sense.

Incivility jail is cool because you can read all the most entertaining rants and ad hominems in one spot.

It's sad that the special snowflakes on here can't take an obvious joke.

But ad hom and uncivil are not the same. As an example if I make a generalized comment as to a class of people such as:

"In my experience, republitards/libbies are inbred mouthbreathers when it comes to xyz"

While reference to a class of people as inbred mouthbreathers is certainly uncivil - it is in no way directed towards any particular poster or perhaps any posters argument.

Or more to the point, if I am the first person on a thread and I say this (i.e. There is no way it could even be perceived as ad hominem), perhaps seriously, or perhaps as satire (i.e. Apocalypsefuck style) Will my comment go to jail, yes or no?
30   MisdemeanorRebel   2017 Dec 4, 5:47pm

Wow, look at all the coordinated downvotes. Goran, things are going great, thanks for modding.

Patrick, thanks again for the forum.

Yes, we noticed that along with your past baggage.

To be clear, the baggage that I was referring to is having this poster hanging about to insult me as soon as I post regardless of the content. That's not civil. Sadly, it is predictable behavior. It was bad enough when we could respond in kind. Now that there is 'moderation' it's unacceptable to me, because I'm not a masochist.

The funny thing is that I made a similar comment while not logged in, so it registered as anon. Somehow it was decided that ironman's post was fine, but this response is trolling or otherwise unworthy.
32   Blurtman   2017 Dec 5, 4:06am

I've bailed from patrick.net, although I do check it occasionally. The move towards moderation seems to be the very antithesis of what patrick.net was founded upon.

Things are much more civil now that most of the people with a brain have left, so that nobody will challenge the Trumpcuck nonsense, and only Conservative morons can insult other posters!

@Patrick is a Piece of Shit for ignoring the calls from so many of the people that posted here for so long, and instead allowing Trumpcucks and disingenuous mean spirited assholes with nothing interesting or of value to be said.

“Look at my truck!”
“Look at my bullets and guns!”

Fuck Patrick and his attempt to ruin patrick.net

Yea i know goron, uncivil. Put it in comments jail so that others cannot see the truth, you halfwit simple simon motherfucker

@YesYNot Sniper's response was not fine. I deleted it.

I'm going to make a special rule completely banning Sniper from using the word "you".
37   anonymous   2017 Dec 5, 7:09am

@patrick - still waiting on a ruling for post #40 above.

As a further example of why ad hom and uncivil are not the same if I were to post:

"people who think like that are niggers"

Clearly uncivilized but not ad-hom. Is this acceptable, yes or no?

In fact, I'm losing it again with Sniper. Just blew away every comment he made that has "you" in it:

mysql> delete from comments where comment_content like '% you %' and comment_author=128155;
Query OK, 990 rows affected (3.45 sec)

Yes, I actually did that:

if ((context.current_user.user_id == 128155) && post_data.comment_content.match(/you/)) post_data.comment_approved = 0
