The prices are high because renters let them be high. We determine the market. If you're considering renting one of these homes, consider contacting the owners and ask them if the rent price is negotiable. If they actually want to rent their properties, they should be flexible on price (or maybe they're just so rich that they don't care if their home sits vacant forever - happens around here). Most of these homes (not all) have been owned for a very long time and have little to no mortgage, so they can just afford to let them sit vacant. Don't let them extort your money.
