Not the end of the NFL, but the end of the PC experiment. It's going to die in USA and it can't happen fast enough!

NFL got involved into politics, that was stupid.

NFL still dominates in ratings relative to what's on TV in same time slots, so reports of it's death are wildly exaggerated.

US footballers booed by their own fans for kneeling to protest Trump's 'divisive' comments

A team of US footballers who knelt during the national anthem to protest comments made by President Donald Trump have been booed by their own fans.

Video of a national anthem ceremony before a match between the New England Patriots and Houston Texans at the Gilette Stadium in Massachusetts on Sunday shows at least 15 Patriots players bending one knee and locking arms.

A number of fans booed their players, with some even calling for them to “stand up”, the Boston Herald reports.

Speaking of the NFL and death, coincidence that the timing of this distraction just so happened the same time of more bad news coming out WRT CTE, specifically Aaron Hernandez?

Who cares? Play the sport, make millions of dollars, deal with the side effects.

No one is forced to play in the NFL.

Man, all those Cowboy fans ate crow

"Don't you worry, Dallas is America's team. Jerry is gonna come out and..."

"Shit."

Jones really thinks he was slick by kneeling before the anthem, then standing for it. "I can just slice the baby in two, and not just to see who loves it more, then give half to everybody. Heh heh, I'm soooo smart."

Good riddance. Get rid of overpaid athletes and their fat, unathletic fans who weigh 20000 lbs and somehow associate themselves with successes of their adopted team. Multimillionaires protesting US Anthem while their owners have US Gov in their pocket is the ultimate definition of hypocrisy.

It's funny. Ratings were up last weekend.

Football was already in big trouble. Now they get some free publicity, so much so that the CTE news in the news is getting passed by without a peep.

This whole thing is more likely to help the NFL than hurt it.

But I'd be interested in how they gather the data for comparing weekly viewership.

There was an extra time slot this weekend with the London game

Actually Nielson says--they measure the ratings.

I played football for 4yrs, love watching the sport, enjoy an occasional pro/collegiate tailgate...

However, I don't want to see politics in football. I engage in football to get away from everything else.

I enjoyed ESPN years ago before it became a political outlet. I want to watch scores and highlights, and nothing else!

If the NFL dies a capitalistic death due to the consequences of taking a political stance, I have no problem with that. I also have no problem with peaceful protest but acknowledge there are sometimes consequences, especially when the protests are done during work hours.

I've already been reading about this week's lost endorsement deals.

Yes, due to the controversy, you will undoubtedly see a spike for a week or two or three. That's the case with any controversy that makes media top stories.

But I can't see new viewers coming on board anywhere near the rate I see lost viewership over the longer term.

If seeing someone kneeling before a football game makes you this angry.... you are a moron.

How does Nielson calculate viewers, do you have to watch the game or just viewi it for a minute or two to make it count? I wonder if people just tuned in to see what the players would do and then changed the channel.

didn't watch. Not watching until NFL issues an apology.
29   anonymous   2017 Sep 26, 7:22pm

Lets be realistic, players trade between cities anyway. Not rooting for home town anyway, they are all paid a lot... so in essence it's just a bunch of millionnaires from out of town playing football. Even uniforms are probably made in China. There is nothing American about the damn game anymore.

Screw that, I have better things to do with my time.

"Turn those cameras around. Show the crowd, Media!"

TV Networks deliberately avoided showing angry crowds during Taking the Knee Anti-American Protest.

Except that's not how Nielson works.

"To best understand how a TV rating works, let's say a show starts at 8pm ET and has 10 people watching. The next minute, at 8:01pm ET, 2 people change the channel to something else, but 4 new people come in and start watching--now there are 12 people watching. So far, there have been a total of 14 people who have consumed any part of this show--10 at the start, 4 more after the first minute. But the TV rating for this show so far would be 11, since 10 the first minute is averaged with 12 the second minute"

https://medium.com/autonomous/you-likely-have-no-idea-how-tv-ratings-work-a-lot-more-people-are-watching-than-you-think-152e51657a5
Discussing any topic with conservatives invariably sinks into a constant battle about what a "fact" is.<

If the Founding Fathers knew these Americans were making peaceful protests, they'd be rolling in their graves!

Only God can save us now, from this Liberal wasteland

For those who think NFL fans are all redneck Republican Trump supporters:

NFL fans skew Democratic.
