You'd have to explain how population is gonna shrink after 2040. It won't. Not due to new babies but longer lives.
Also resources are generally not lacking.
Oil is on path to be replaced altogether with renewables.

We're screwed probably but not so fast as foreseen.

The more educated and prosperous a society gets, the quicker it's population stops growing, and eventually starts to fall. Happens every time. Germany, Japan, North Europe. Most of the world is seeing a lower population growth rate. Towards the end of the century and beyond, falling population will be the biggest problem the world faces.
