Nothing. There are already penalties for reckless driving, penalties for causing an accident, penalties for damaging property with your car, and penalties for hurting or killing people with a car. All other tickets are an additional form of taxation, and should be nullified.

If traffic tickets are supposed to disincentivize speeding, then they should be a percentage of income.

$500 to somebody who makes $24k is overkill.
$500 to somebody who makes $240k is nothing.

It's a reverse lottery where unlucky losers pay little jackpots to the state and budget shortfalls create perverse incentives to give more tickets.

Exactly. It's a perverse incentive to commit effectively fraud and theft. The state should never receive any income from fines and penalties. Instead, all such revenue should be given back to the people in the form of a tax-free socialized income. I wouldn't call it a "guaranteed income" because the income would fluctuate with the fines and penalties imposed, but it would be a varying form of such an income. Spread it evenly throughout the population.

The disincentive for speeding or reckless driving would still be there, but the perverse incentive would not be there. Pretty much every evil in our society is caused by a perverse incentive.

Nothing time to starve the DOT DMV out of existence and start over. They have become nothing but an impediment to traffic and everyone trying to get anywhere.
It is pure stupidty nonsense. NPR had a segment on today the three tri county traffic commisioners were there trying to extole the virtues of public transportation. And were beaming with the brilliant pride over the traffic imediment measures they have intentionally created to force people to use Public Transportation. Then the seething scathing calls stared pouring in. This is fucking NPR thier callers don't normally point their telephone finger in NPR's face and give them a stern wagging like these callers were doing.
Calling them out on the 900 to 1000(what a vague fucked up statement that what he claimed think he would know exactly) buses in a County with 6 million people and you expect them to use it.
The bus routes are bad, busses are late, they are dangerous with criminal element, why should I ride on the bus when I can take my car, that will sit in the same slow traffic you Idiots intentionally created so people will ride the Bus. Are you Idiots listening to what you fools are even saying? The host would interupt them then ask well they are here tell them what you want them to do with public transportation.
They never got it. Nobody never told them to either develop a Public transporation people want to ride in, that services their needs, or stop it. But Stop trying to force people into taking the none existant public transporatation.

Another point made about the TriRail. It's one track downtown it's limited and doesn't take many people to maney places, very limited routes. But if you take it and it breaks down you're trapped on the monorail for upto 12 hours before crews can get you down. It's happened a few times over the years. It's a huge joke, The Train rails only go north and south, then there's not enough buses to take people to the rest of their destiniations.

Today riding home from work on i95 I saw a City Bus meander off 595 very slowly cut across all the lanes to get to the far left lane, but crawled along the whole time at 35mp. Even when it was in the express lane, that people pay so they can go to Miami at the speed limit. I don't think the bus never got up to 45 mph. More and more cars on i95 are moping. I'm pretty sure, people who work in the city transportation are told by their supervisors. Listen when you're on i95 drive like it's the busiest back street regardless how smooth the traffic is flowing.

The State is breaking more saftey and traffic laws than anybody where's their fucking ticket!?

Imagine all the unreported income tax fraud this would incentivize just to be eligible for a reduced rate speeding ticket...

I disagree with all of you. Here is why...
Most speeding, reckless driving, etc is done by younger drivers. We must make it expensive for them so they drive carefully, so they don't kill themselves or others. It's the age that matters, not the income.
My son just turned 21. I told him if he ever drove like i did, i would kill him. I drove a 5.0 liter Mustang like hell when i was his age, but i gave him our 2011 Prius to drive. he he he

You clearly did not understand what I wrote. Diverting the revenue of fines and penalties from the state to the people would not in any way reduce those fines and penalties. So any deterrent those costs create would still exist. Is this not clear?
