I've read 650K emails in many places, and 10s of thousands of emails in other places. I don't think anyone knows, but if there are 650K emails, most of them are probably spam. Running a spam filter would filter that out quickly.

Fair enough.. but it's still a ton of emails. Even accounting for multiple accounts, to mention whatever Weiner had on the machine... which got the proverbial ball rolling.

That's what they said on the TV news as well, that the figure includes spam and some previously released emails that they still need to filter out.
That's more than 1 email sent (or received) per second over the course of an entire year. Given that she worked for almost 4 years under Clinton as secretary of state, your talking almost 1 email every 3 seconds, 24-7-365.
My mail, which has about two years of stuff isn't even close to that. At most there's 250,000 and no I don't delete much - if anything I have stuff duplicated in various places.
Certainly 650.000 is a lost more than a normal person would have, even if they work in a tech heavy industry.
So either she was in copy on almost every mail sent / received at the top levels of the state department, or there were multiple backups of her email account on this newly discovered machine. Backups seems to make more sense given the number of mails reportedly found. If she sent / received say 150 emails a day, on average, and backed up automatically every six months, that would be an aggregate of just under 640.000 emails in total (but only about 135.000 unique ones.) Far more conceivable scenario.
I suspect once they cull the duplicate information, there will be far less for the FBI to weed through.
