With all the propaganda being spread around about the supposedly sky-rocketing cost of Obamacare/ACA health insurance, I thought I'd start a thread to share my own cost experience. As some may remember, I buy my own insurance, so I do see the cost.

I can report a number for 2017 that is in stark contrast to what is being reported (or should I say propagandized) all over the press and various blogs.

My obamacare cost increase for 2017 is 0.7%. Read that again: **** 0.7% ****

Yes, I pay the full amount every month, and the above increase is, I think, the lowest I have seen for any insurance I have ever bought. Note also that the amount includes the effect of becoming a year older, which is something that many anecdotes about price hikes seem to ignore.

The bottom line: Not everything you read about Obamacare cost is true. Not even in the otherwise pricey SF Bay Area. It ain't cheap, but it sure as heck is much better than the alternative. Medicare for all would be even better.

You are a sample size of one, or statistical noise.

For every one of you, there are likely 8 others enrolled in the ACA who will see premium increases of 15% to 93% this year, and continuing, similar, double-digit increases for years to come (unless the ACA falls in upon itself, which odds say that it will).

You are a sample size of one,

It is a sample size of ONE health plan and age point, not just one person. But how can it be that my health plan is so much more cost-effective than others? It does not make sense. I conclude that some of the numbers being thrown around in the press are propagandized and not true.

The only way your premium jumped up that little is if:

1) You have a very low income and 90% of your premium is subsidized by the rest of the tax payers.

2) You have a very low income and 90% of your premium is subsidized by the rest of the tax payers.

For everyone else who has a decent paying job or is successfully self employed, premiums have gone through the roof.

Please read again instead of falling for the temptation to shame me for political gain. That was the full price, which I pay every month.

No political gain. Just facts. I've shopped the bullshit exchange several times over the past several years and have been floored with the increase in premium cost.

Like I said, you have a very low income and 90% of your premium is subsidized by the rest of the tax payers, if you have not experienced - nor seen - dramatic cost increases.

Sure, you are most likely paying the FULL PRICE of your personal premium, but your premium is subsidized if you haven't seen a substantial increase.

Do you care to disclose your definition of full cost?

With a premium amount?

TPB, my premium is north of $700 and less than $800 per month. I don't care to get more specific than that.

I'm also self-employed and recently had the chance to look on the exchange. The premium I was quoted was $250/mo, and we are in the top 10% income-wise, so it's not subsidized. I got it cheaper through a private channel, which is obviously unsubsidized. I agree with the OP. There's something fishy going on with the numbers. Maybe some states are in a death spiral and others are not. That's always possible.
