Does anyone know of a workaround to get dog medication without getting soaked the fee for a doggie "physical " first?

I need Rimadyl asap and the fuckwad company that I purchase it through says they need a new verification first.

These scammers are almost as bad as human health care people

All prescription drugs should be allowed at all times to anyone. Anything else, and we may as well kill ourselves. Live free or die.

Yea my partner called back and coaxed the lady that answers the phone for my mobile vet into sending authorization now, so long as we make an appt for later this week.

Fuck them once the meds ship, I'm going to call and cancel.

I offered to just pay them their money without having to waste anyone's time so they'd just fax the "pharmacy " the authorization, but she wouldn't do that. What a ripoff

You can rest at ease. Nobody will suffer the harms of the dangerous Rimadyl, because the State will protect the Profits of those who know best, what with all those fancy certs!

The Government saves your day again

Why don't you just use an over the counter nsaid?

5   turtledove   2016 Aug 1, 9:48am

Mexico. Used to do it all the time for Sammy. At the end there, he was on $400/month in meds. I could get the same things filled in Mexico for like $80/month. Ridiculous! How far are you?

Mexico? About 50 hours drive lol

Supposedly OTC nsaids are harmful to dogs, but the Rimadyl is formulated to be dog safe.

I'll admit, I'm ignorant as to why. Maybe i just bought what the Rimadyl marketing team is selling. But it works. I was certain I'd have to put him down 3+ years ago, instead, he keeps going strong, with his medicine.

Most mastiffs don't live past 7, and he is ~ 8. That's a testament to giving the doog the right food. He's been eating raw meat exclusively for five years

We use rimadyl for our dog, but it is not necessarily safe. It causes a variety of problems, and my wife closely monitors his blood work to balance the benefits with the damage.

We've yet to suffer any negative side effects (that we know of). He went from not being able to walk, to back running after the ball post Rimadyl. So we stick with it.

At eight years old, for a mastiff, we go with what works.

I hear that Call It Crazy gives out free doggie physicals. Usually the dogs come back limping and whining though.

Not sure what medication your Rimadyl is, but I use Trifexis for our dogs heartworm and flea meds. They want/need a prescription and cost a bit buying here in the states. I found a site pet-i-supply.com and get them without the script and about 40% cheaper than what they want here. We've used them for several years now, the packaging, the manufacturer, everything is the same, just cheaper and not needing the script. The only down side is that it is mail order and takes about two weeks to get it. It appears to be coming from England.

Tramadol and Gabapentin are what were prescribed for Sammy for the arthritic and spinal issues.... Made him a little sleepier, but he was pretty low energy at 14, anyway... But I noticed a huge difference in the earlier days that he was on the medication. He would jump around at meal time... and he'd run up to me when I got home. You could really tell a difference if you missed a dose.

None of this stuff is going to be good for the liver, but they certainly helped with the pain. We started with just the Tramadol.... and then they added the Gabapentin (helps with nerve pain) toward the last six months when the spaces between his vertebrae disappeared....

Also, Adequan injections helped, too. Kind of like a mega glucosamine. They do one in each hip every month (after an initial build up of one a week for a month or two). That also helped loosen the joints up.

In a free country, I'm certain that canna-butter type remedy would be the most economical and effective treatment, but here in the United States of worthless Laws, Legislators, and Do-Gooders, that is a no-no

14   turtledove   2016 Aug 1, 3:25pm

Do you have access to a private pool? One thing that was suggested for Sammy was basically physical therapy in a pool. You might want to read up on that if you have a private pool you could use.

@errc my vet said the normal standard of care is to do blood tests every year on rimadyl to check for organ function. If they have issues, like already have kidney or liver problems, they might test more often.

I give my dog a prescription diet...."JD Dog" It made a big difference.

Can you do the physical and get the medication for the entire year or so?

Supposedly OTC nsaids

What about OTC non NSAID pain revealers?

19   rufita11   2016 Aug 7, 11:57am

It is important to get an x-ray and follow-up sonogram to see if there are any obstructions or spine damage/degeneration causing the issues. If we had just gone with the Rimadyl and not looked further, our 14 yr old dalmatian would still be on it. We found out that he had a grapefruit sized lipoma crowding his abdominal cavity. We've always fed him raw/organic/human grade/gf and exercise him daily, so this is just one of those genetic issues. A few months post surgery and he is acting like a much younger dog again. We've almost burned through his health savings account, but it was so worth it.

Update

He got his meds. The vet just came and gave him a once over, and updated his rabies shot. Just over $100 for a house call, really isn't too bad. I don't blame the vet, it's not his fault. However, I don't see who benefits other than the company that makes Rimadyl, from keeping the doggy NSAID from being OTC. I'd guess that in a free market, that bottle of medicine might cost $25 max, instead of the $250 it costs in this lemon socialist mess that you idiots support

Low cost drugs are available when patents run out or when there is a lot of competition to drive the price down. The high price of name brand drugs is due to the patent system, which is the opposite of a socialist system.

FYI, Rimadyl is the name brand of Carprofen. The patent has run out, so generic forms are available from other drug makers. If you continue to buy Rimadyl, you are part of the reason for the high price.

But name brands have "extra magic" in them than generics. Not really, but by human purchasing patterns we believe they do, or don't have enough other information to choose the generic. http://www.npr.org/sections/money/2013/07/05/198504001/why-doesnt-everybody-buy-cheap-generic-headache-medicine

Tdove, does Trump's wall come with a special, "Meds from Mexico" re-entry line? ;)

It also explains why Repubs have declined from a golden era. Canibalisim leads to nervous and brain disorders. Don't eat the moderates.

I don't ever take any medicines or drugs, prescription, OTC, nada. After two years of getting soaked for Rimadyl, we tried to save a little money and try generic. Now the dog can't actually talk, but it sure looked like he wasn't getting around as good. Switched back to Rimadyl, he went back to walking better. I know, the dog is suffering from placebo effect. Rimadyl marketing got to him. The generic is not much cheaper IIRC. I think it was 170$ instead of $250+

Sounds like it's hard to make and make well or there was a random change in the dogs health. How is the price due to a lemon socialist state? How is Trump going to change the price of Rimadyl?
