Just completed interviews for entry level jobs where I work. Starts at $39k a year with good benefits. This is Los Angeles so pay in not so great to start though there is upward potential.

Min job req is a hs diploma. 10 candidates, 7 had bachelors degrees, all had at least AA. The few I spoke to said the job market is almost impossible and were thrilled to be interviewing.

If I wasn't convinced the economy was still in the shitter as far as the average dude is concerned, I am now. I'm happy we are getting quality people who will make strong supervisors down the road. But no reason any of these people should have been settling for these positions.

Hmmm... HS diploma job, but 70% had a bachelors and 30% had a AA..., applying for a job that JUST requires a diploma...

Yep, Obama says the economy is booming!!!

Didn't you hear....A college degree is the new high school diploma. Anything less is minimum wages until the robots take over.

2   Ceffer   2016 Mar 9, 11:36pm

All job interviews should begin with the interviewer asking for the applicant's college diploma, then wiping his ass with it.

3   indigenous   2016 Mar 9, 11:38pm

What did the applicants have a degree in?

4   FuckTheMainstreamMedia   2016 Mar 10, 6:30am

3 bs in business admin, the other four had more specialized degrees and we're working in those fields, but underemployed.

5   FuckTheMainstreamMedia   2016 Mar 10, 6:40am

"Right......so what do you get then???? Americans working all the shit jobs and getting paid $10 an hour?"

Point of this posting is that's what we have now after 8 years of economical mismanagement.

The end game of socialism is almost everyone who works makes $15 an hour or whatever the minimum wage is, but a whole lot of people don't actually work, and almost no one gets ahead with the exception of the politically connected.

The current income gap is almost entirely due to economic policy encouraging passive investments. The policies Trump advocates would force investment into manufacturing and other business. Stemming illegal immigration would increase competitiveness in the job market. This really isn't difficult.

Your story contradicts this chart.

7   indigenous   2016 Mar 10, 7:44am

Either way it is undeniably down.

The participation rate is explained by the increasing number below working age.

DF's story is anecdotal or maybe there is more unemployment in LA? God knows LA has done everything in it's power to drive jobs out of the state.

8   indigenous   2016 Mar 10, 8:33am

And yours is not? How come.

I can read between the lines. When a guy hotly supports a group that is and has been fucking the people over for years by policies that drive wages down, create fear of a PC witch hunt, and keep things spiraling down until we all achieve slave status, I know he's pro-oligarch. Pro-status quo is pro-oligarch.

Which group?

Notice, "Seasonally Adjusted".... they can make the chart say whatever they want

You are the biggest idiot on pat.net. How the hell is seasonally adjusting going to cause unemployment to continually drop for 7 YEARS? Do you have any clue how the world works?

11   tatupu70   2016 Mar 10, 1:02pm

Ironman says

Maybe because it hasn't dropped for 7 years..

Ah, yes--shadowstats. The bastion of lies for the uneducated. It has been proven, over and over again, to be utter BS. I'm not surprised you like it.

Ironman says

But, if you're looking for areas that DID drop, try the LFPR, Homeownership, Incomes, etc..... well, you can thank Obama for this chart

Did Obama cause people to age? He really is powerful.

Regardless, do you understand that seasonal adjustment CANNOT cause any stat to fall for 7 years? You get that, right?

The concept of noise is obviously foreign to CIC.

13   indigenous   2016 Mar 10, 6:17pm

Yea that is cute with all your theatrics and all, but go fuck yourself bitch, the population is going to increase big time, so your idea that job participation is decreasing is ridiculous.

14   indigenous   2016 Mar 10, 7:22pm

No tard boy, I'm quoting your article.

15   indigenous   2016 Mar 10, 7:24pm

No tard boy, what I have quoted is from the first page of your article/

16   indigenous   2016 Mar 10, 7:38pm

This from your link:

The U.S. population is expected to grow more slowly in future decades than it did in the previous century. Nonetheless, the total population of 319 million in 2014 is projected to reach the 400 million threshold in 2051 and 417 million in 2060.

It agrees with my charts.

You have a point, but Obama still gets the credit for the recovery.

Obama did what it took to prevent a depression. I give him credit for that.

Fuck No. Not that I'm defending Bush, but Obama passed the ACA and Dodd Frank that will have huge effects on the economy in the future.

He is just another megalomaniac who desperately needs to be bitch slapped to the curb. What really sucks is that because of this kind of ignorance Hillary will be elected next. Gawd fucking dammit.

FWIW, 3 1/2 years later we no longer get ANYONE applying for these jobs who has a college degree.

And in fact, despite starting at $18 an hour, we can't even get enough people fast enough. Part of it is the hoops that have to be jumped through(the hiring process can take 1 month up to a year).

The positive is that the people who are winding up with these jobs would likely make as much in private industry or even more in the here and now(average LA county salary is over $30 an hour...around $63K a year), but wouldn't have the future opportunities nor the level of job security.

Help wanted signs are everywhere in SoCal. I really believe that anyone who wants a job right now has one. The permanent ghetto dwellers are staffing the fast food places, so the service has really gone down hill. But what can you expect from a minimum wage job? Even if that minimum wage is $12/hour here in California.

If all you are paying is $12 an hour, you won't be able to hire anyone at all except maybe those with substantial criminal record. Even the fast food places are having to pay $14-15/hr. The better places like In N Out and Chik Fil A are both starting at over $16 an hour and include benefits.

The economy is truly on fire. Whats crazy is there are Democrats who believe CNN(and worse, the spanish language news) which are actively lying about the economy. I've asked a few of these people who they can name that is struggling and they become tongue tied. But they still insist the economy isn't all that good. I say what the average pay is in LA County, and the country. Still they remain tongue tied and insist that the economy is not good.

Absolute fools at this point.

What ? You can't get people with college degrees to line up for starting pay of 40K in 2019, in Los Angeles ? Hell that would be like, what, 13,000 in 1980 ? You're right, that really is some kind of a sign that the economy is on fire.

You completely missed the point. The OP was only 3 1/2 years ago. What do you think changed?

Yes. No surprise really as gov pay always lags the general economy on the way up.

It also NEVER falls when the private sector falls either. It stays permanently high.
