Unless they are in the political shit stirring business then they are championed as role models.

The "Good Schools" don't have State Championship class atheletic programs.
But the one's with State Shampionshit programs don't have state of the art modern learning labs.

As the racial makeup changed, so did the uniforms and where did the new style of basketball uniforms come from and why?
As far as I can tell, that's just fashion. When I was 10 (mid sixties) boys mostly wore tight and short shorts in the summer. Cut offs or whatever. My mom didn't like it because when she grew up or a bit later what she was used to were long baggy shorts on boys.
That style came back. And I have to admit, that tight and short shorts on men (or boys) look weird to me now. It's just fashion.
Not to be cold and dark (like justme), but maybe the reason has something to do with all the gay men in the fashion world that died in the 80s and 90s due to aids
OR maybe it's just the fashion cycle. It certainly doesn't have anything to do with race.
As for the racial make up of teams. I think it simply took several decades after blacks started being allowed to compete, for them to dominate basketball to the degree they do. First they start working their way in, then more black kids aspire to follow their footsteps and so on, until it reaches a level it stays at. If there are qualities, ralative to race that account for this, my opinion is that a significant part of it is not physical.
Has anything changed? This is a piece from the Times-Picayune in 1993 about race and athletics and for anyone that lived in "Da Parish" pre-Katrina read on, it will be just like the old times or maybe just like present time

Unlike in other areas of life, those exceptional athletes are allowed to thrive and earn millions of dollars. That happens, Anderson said, because the success of black athletes does not challenge the power that white people hold in American society.
"Black success in the arena doesn't violate any of our long-held physical stereotypes about the black body," Anderson said. "There's still a kind of minstrel quality to it: 'Bring 'em out. They will entertain us.'
"But God forbid you ever have to work for one."
