Mell,

Thanks for sharing.

@Rin,

There are certain things in life money can't buy. Being a dad is one of them. You won't understand it unless you have been there. Of course, I'm not trying to convince you. :0)

On a slightly contrarian p.o.v, my dad's a father (obviously), however, my sister had driven him crazy, over the decades. Do I want his predicament? Nope.

Perhaps his wife (my negligent mother), but not me. I was studious, won a scholarship, and had left home for college. He'd never heard from me, since then, aside from those annual family gatherings.

6   Eman   2015 Mar 15, 9:31pm

@Rin,

As much as your sister is so messed up, I bet your dad still loves her. You might want to ask your dad on the next family gathering.

Nice avatar by the way. She's pretty. What's her name?

Here's my point ... so what? He's had a coronary and isn't exactly living a great life. My sister has made the life of everyone around her, esp her husband, miserable. This is the problem with having a sibling with histrionic and borderline personality disorder. As for dad, he's got his own neurosis.

As for my avatar, she's a look-a-like/doppelganger of a Nova Scotian esc*rt, I'd been with, in prior years. I'm not in touch with her, anymore.

It was made by MetLife in Hong Kong (therefore bilingual). While an international corporation headquartered in New York, I doubt this would have been easily possibly out here in the western world, for obvious reasons. It would have to pass the mass-resistance of the men-hating, "progressive" (democrat) machinery first. The very same machinery that takes all the income away from hard-working dads via shameless taxation on income.

@Rin,

Not sure if you pay attention to what you posted above, but you sound a little self-centered. Life is about giving. It feels great when we can afford to give without expecting anything in return. If you can afford to help dad out or even your sister, you should consider it.

I was curious about your avatar and had my assistant look into it. Her name is Grettell Valdez. She is a Mexican actress. Married in 2004 and divorced in 2010. Regardless, she's pretty.

Can't say I care much for this comment.

Go around saying "people who don't have kids just don't understand" all you want. That's smug enough but, given what science tells us about hormonal effects of parenting, it's forgivable.

So, for example, after I hear, for the umpteenth time, that I must cover for a co-worker who has a parental conflict, I forgive them, even as I must listen to "People without kids just don't understand" in meetings.

But when you tell someone without kids that they're self-centered, you blow right through the border crossing into DoucheLand.

Ppl don't change, once they hit their 40s. Thus, getting a hypnotherapist isn't going to work, as neither of them have listened to me, for much of the past three decades. They refuse to do any counseling.

E-man says

Actually, I didn't know that. I had simply saved a photo, which was a doppelganger of that Nova Scotian gal.

It's normal; these folks have elevated Oxytocin (as oppose to Oxycontin), levels which gives 'em a sense of bonding and belonging. The fact that other ppl don't need that, since we're able to function independently, is surprising to them.

Rin,

The self-centered comment was regarding to the post about your dad and maybe your sister. HydroCabron took things out of context like some other posters on this site. I People judge you by what you say since most of us are strangers on Patnet.

As you can see, I didn't accuse you of lying about your avatar. You always have to give people the benefit of the doubts. As you explained above, both your dad and your sister have ignored your advice for the last three decades. Thus, it got to the point where you don't give a damn about them anymore, which is understandable.

Now going back to being a dad, I didn't know what I didn't know until I became a dad. That's how special it feels. Like you, I'm fortunate enough to be in a position where I control my own time. I get to spend as much time with my daughter as I want to. You get to go bang hoes at your own discretion. Isn't that what financial freedom is all about? You can tell anyone, like your boss or supervisor, who wants you to do something to go eff themselves. :0)

Boo yeah. Welcome to the world of f-you money.

Not yet, they need to first buy out my equity stake, which is end of this year, hopefully. And then, yes, I'm in full f' you money. But it's not so much about the hoes, it's more about managing my time/resources.

When I'm done with this stint, after a long vacation, I'll be retaking the MCAT and applying for medical school. The reason for that is that I want to be an independent researcher, and one who's able to finance his own efforts.

For me, a so-called romantic relationship has no place in the busy lifestyle of a Renaissance man who does research, writes screenplays, practices martial arts, & other hobbies, while periodically, seeing hoes. Relationships for me are both a time and a personal space sink. This way, if I'm in Sydney, and I'm working hard on solving some complex problem, I'll take a break, go to a 5 star brothel, and be reset to get back to problem solving again. I don't have to give her a tour of Sydney, just to get some servicing.

@Rin have you seen the 1971 film "Carnal Knowledge?" Aside from having Jack Nicholson in it, it's a poignant review of what happens to both The Romantic who places all his hopes on a woman who is supposed to complete him and The Sensualist (Jack) who is a womanizer of the first order who sees the act of love as merely an act to be enjoyed and discarded.

Being a parent is the absolutely toughest job in the world. A 80 hour work week is a walk in the park in comparison. Those who aren't parents will never understand the total sacrifice and unselfish nature that goes into trying to provide for your kids.

That explains rightwing compassion for the single parent. I mean, shit, even a crackhead can be a parent, and since it is the hardest job in the world, you conservatives should gladly open your wallets and help the welfare people out, right?

The way I see it is that anyone with functioning genitalia can be a parent. Now, you may mean being a "good parent", but in that respect I see most biological parents fall far short of being "good", since most are self-serving pricks who justify their selfishness at least in part because they have "a family" to care for. They look out for themselves and their kin, and not much more, in the bets of cases. In the worst, they are absentee or devoid of any real responsibility.

Heck - it would be a major step forward if the majority simply took responsibility for their own family.

Instead we have a skyrocketing levels of single parents in America (despite abortion and birth control being widely available) and we we wonder why we are seeing an increase in income inequality.

That's why young are liberals who quickly turn into conservatives once they become parents. Wisdom comes with age and experience.

Age does not lead to wisdom. There are plenty of old fools. It does lead to a condition where people are willing to cash out and fuck over society. This is a good reason to limit the voting age. If you don't have to live with the policies enacted today for 20 years, you shouldn't have a say in them.

If the old were so wise, they would be leading the advancement of humanity, rather than hindering it. Yet in every issue, they are consistently on the wrong side of history, from slavery to segregation to interracial marriage to same-sex marriages.

It sure would be nice if the elderly were truly wise and, having learned from history, were the ones at the forefront of advancing humanity and correcting the mistakes of the past. Unfortunately, history does not bear this out. The old are the most likely to cling to the mistakes of the past and prefer repeating them. The old are dominated by habit, not wisdom.

They are most certainly not self-centered, because they sacrifice time and money to raise the future workers who will be paying your (and their) SS benefits while you are spending your time and money on hoes in Montreal. So shut up and cover for them - it's the least you can do.

Your rant would be perfectly OK before SS was introduced, but not anymore. 8-P

Kid crazy people will actually tell you that no one can be complete without kids. Barf. Then, just to reply with an equivalent platitude, you tell them that having kids is a mere vanity....and they get a case of the vapors and run screaming from the room.

I have a kid, and having kids is a personal choice. People should be paid not to have kids, or more than one of them.

FortWayne says

That's why young are liberals who quickly turn into conservatives once they become parents. Wisdom comes with age and experience.

Nonsense. Mark Twain became more left as he aged, as did many other great men. Whereas most dumb neocons were Revolutionary Jacobin Trotskyites as kids, only to become old violence loving Jacobin Neocons in their old age.

It would be even better if assholes on Facebook and on TV minded their own goddamn business about other people's parenting. If the kid don't have bruises, shut the fuck up. (Not directed at you personally)

I can't think of anyone I grew up with who flip-flopped like that.

I mean straight from LIBERAL HIPPY to Teahadist.

Not a one.

Sure I have relatives who THINK they were somewhat hippy when young but they weren't. Smoking some weed and riding a motorcycle didn't make them hippies, it just colors their memories. It's hilarious when one of them talks like this, I remind him how his favorite book series back then was THE SURVIVALIST and how he had a gas mask and MREs and plenty of guns and ammo for the coming nuclear winter.....

The lot of them couldn't have approved of gay marriage or race-mixing, back in those days. These days they seem OK with it, mostly.

35   CL   2015 Apr 21, 8:41am

Reconcile these to thoughts for me, CIC.

Call it Crazy says

Are you that fucking stupid?? Do you really think people "try" to be a BAD parent??

Call it Crazy says

Being a parent is the absolutely toughest job in the world. A 80 hour work week is a walk in the park in comparison.

If it is so fucking hard to be a parent, then wouldn't simply not trying be failure? And wouldn't not trying hard enough be failure as well?

If it's hard, it's easy to fail. That's the definition of hard, isn't it?

Most parenting in the world is failure, particularly on the effort side. They can engage in self-congratulatory drivel, but being a parent only requires that you impregnate someone or are yourself impregnated. And if that's hard, then any creature with offspring throughout history has worked just as hard.

36   CL   2015 Apr 21, 9:06am

Call it Crazy says

My first question to you, what is YOUR definition of being a parent and the responsibilities of a parent? Then, we can go from there..

I already defined it. M-W does too:

: a person who is a father or mother : a person who has a child

: an animal or plant that produces a young animal or plant

: something out of which another thing has developed

Now any other value or quality you want to imbue a parent with is your own projection. Simply doing the above is not difficult. By your own observation, you can see negligent parents, verbally abusive parents, physically abusive parents, drug-addled negligent parents, and so on. Are they not parents? And how hard are they working at this task?

So, can you really say that it is harder to be a parent than any 80hr/week job? That is simply factually incorrect.

Parenting is so rewarding, the parents say. If you've ever done say, concrete labor as I have, I'd rather raise a child any day than swing a sledge for 80/hrs a week. That is really difficult work, and barely rewarding.

37   CL   2015 Apr 21, 10:01am

Call it Crazy says

To be a GOOD parent is tougher than an 80hr/week job.

What percent of biological parents do you deem "good" then?

38   socal2   2015 Apr 21, 10:03am

CL says

I think you are confusing that with single parenthood.

A dude impregnating a girl and not marrying the mother or sticking around to raise the kids is not a "parent".

Well meaning liberal policies by the State to support the children of single parents has only exacerbated the problem as can be clearly seen by the massive explosion in the growth of single parent families.........which is pretty much a guarantee to a life of poverty and government dependency.

40   CL   2015 Apr 21, 10:16am

Single parenthood is parenting. The root is right there! You can't exclude it because you don't like it, because a single parent is still a parent. It proves my point even better.
