If the sadists of ISIS are seeking — with their mass executions, child rapes, immolations, and beheadings of Christians — to stampede us into a new war in the Middle East, they are succeeding
Meanwhile, Assad, as well as non-ISIS extremists, slice and dice humans into tiny bits, but don't film it or ritualize it.

It's more than just the GOP.

We'll not be having any common sense on Patnet.
I have heard some alarming over-reactions to ISIL, but on the other hand I am wondering what to do about the irreparable damage to archeological sites. The Taliban and ISIL follow a common religious view that nothing existed prior to their religion, and if any evidence contradicts the religion, then the evidence must be destroyed and/or suppressed. As the Taliban destroyed Buddhist statues in Afghanistan, ISIL morons are destroying ancient artifacts in Iraq. The idea is to create terra nova, a land with no history, so ISIL can say life was never better. Since most Muslim countries were better off before Islam, they are particularly vulnerable to religious revision of history.
we are just trying to keep up...isis has acquired cruise missile technology...
