We had bid on a house with a realtor in town last fall. She was telling me today how the market is stronger than ever. She said that people are coming here from SF and the Peninsula to buy houses in Pacifica. I said we were no longer in the market. She was saying that she was worried that because we aren't all cash. She wanted to get us in a house before rates go up.

We aren't going to take the bait, but hearing her describe the market in our town was just depressing.

It's always people from elsewhere driving prices up: from China, the east coast, Stockton, etc.

Here in Denver it's the Californians. Never mind that most of the people bidding 8% over asking are native to Colorado.

Buy now or be priced out forever - this dead cat ain't gonna bounce itself!

Very few people actually want to live in Pacifica who don't already live there -- this makes no sense, and seems like puffery.

"Pacifica, come for the view, stay for the fog!"

How about a nice trailer on the cliffs?

Remember the winter of 1982?

Your Realtor is only thinking of your welfare.

That is, after you buy the rat infested shack they find for you for massively overpriced big bucks, you will, in fact either feel like you are on welfare or wind up on welfare.

So what do Realtor's know about finances and the economy? I mean outside their commission.

Did she at least look decent? If I'm going to get screwed, I want her to at least look nice.

Realtor's

Jesus H. Christ on a Harley.

It's a motherfuckin' plural, not a possessive.

I wish I could photoshop cellulite out of home prices.

This much is certain.

Update: Another realtor called me yesterday. He told me that the tide had changed and things have slowed down this summer. He said, he isn't seeing multiple bids at this point. He wanted to know if I had seen this house or that one. I said I hadn't been out looking since we had decided to sit out for a while. I don't know if he is changing the bait, or if his comments reflect some change in the market around here. It will be interesting to see what happens next.

I must resist to comment here and agree with all AF said.
