Yesterday as I was driving around I noticed an open house not far from my house. The house was actually about the same size and layout as mine. Of course it had been very cleverly staged and I was expecting the asking price would be a bit more in the year that its been since we bought our house. But the shocker was the asking price was a full $200,000 more than what we paid. Same house. Same neighborhood. What's more, people were literally lining out the door to see the thing. Lastly, the house we bought as well as this one aren't exactly stunning. They're typical 60's,70's tract homes. Yet the way it was being presented and the general atmosphere at the open house was super upscale, which I found sort of strange given the neighborhood its in, which is squarely middle class.
