Money manager Conning & Co.] rates North Dakota the safest state to lend money to, Connecticut the most hazardous. A state qualifies for the Forbes death spiral list if its taker/maker ratio exceeds 1.0 and it resides in the bottom half of Connings ranking. Its easy to see how California got on our list. It has pampered a large army of civil servants while using every imaginable trick to chase private-sector jobs away, the latest being a quixotic scheme to reduce the globes atmospheric carbon.

Alas, that 47% speech was beautiful. Too bad truth hurts.

Can someone get the data on the 47% so we can do Monte Carlo analysis of NAFTA and the CRA causative effects? BLS or other?

Stupid winters. Who needs 'em.

With increasing levels of mechanization in manufacturing, outsourcing of jobs to countries without minimum wage laws, and decreasing levels of education, the 47% is going to grow. At some point only the top 20% of people will work. They will do so for status and for the ability to buy luxury items. The rest will live on the Dole, scraping by in meaningless existence as their worthless lives pass them by. This unprecedented level of laziness will be made possible by automation perfection which negates the need for many workers. Also birth control will be stringent, those on the Dole will be limited to one child per womb. Any after that wont be provided for by the state.
Since idle hands are the devil's playground, crime will be rampant. The productive few will live behind walls and the rest will fight like rats in the vast tenement city that is America.

"In 2805, Earth is covered in garbage due to decades of mass consumerism facilitated by the megacorporation Buy n Large. BnL evacuated Earth's population in fully automated starliners in 2105. Left behind were trash compactor Waste Allocation Load Lifter – Earth Class (WALL-E) robots, to clean the planet. Through the years they eventually broke down. One WALL-E unit has managed to remain active by repairing itself using parts from other broken units. Wall-E also developed sentience. As with his regular duties, he inquisitively collected artifacts of human civilization. He kept these items in his storage truck home. He befriended a cockroach, and enjoys listening to Hello, Dolly!"

There aren't any Republican Neo-Con Tea Baggers in the Blue states receiving any tax dollars. There aren't any RNCTBs in the 47%.roflmao

The Redistribution Socialist RNCTBs are destroying this country.
Let's take away their entitlements.

nah, you underestimate the power of the home entertainment complex as a pacifier.

The "dole" as you describe it costs less than locking someone up. Basically people will imprison themselves.

Work for work's sake sucks anyway. But automation isn't going to replace ALL jobs, there will still be a strong service sector, distributing the goods and making services for each other.

Few people understand the power of a service economy, how GDP can explode when service providers exchange services among each other ($100 of services can ping through the service economy hundreds of times).

It's only the rent-taps that slow down the service economy, the costs we incur on ground rent, legal fees, gov't taxes, energy costs, etc.

I thought being idle could be desirable. Anyone read The Importance of Being Earnest?

Bill and Peter, there is a new movie on Netflix you might find interesting.
"zeitgeist moving forward"

Can't agree with everthing but diagnosis of much of the problem is there.

Eleven states, including California, have more residents who draw money from the government—as employees, pensioners, or welfare recipients—than people employed in the private sector.

So, the author of the article thinks that workers and former workers who pay included a pension plan are lazy scumbags like welfare recipients. Says a lot about the author.

Of course, if you want to get rid of government workers, cut military spending by 90%. Military spending makes up the majority of discretionary spending and it's the biggest government job program in the history of the entire world.

That's where the Wall Streeters live, in their mansions in Greenwich.
