When I was a kid SF had thousands of Single Room Occupancy hotel rooms. I never saw anybody sleeping on the streets till the hippies started sleeping in GG park. The do-gooder Limousine Liberal Developers, Walter Shorenstein et al, tore them all down and perhaps outlawed them via zoning. The Hobo Hotels were infinitely better than sleeping and shitting on the street, seemingly affordable for anyone, and made a living for the East Indians running them.

Typical of the Left they cause some great social ill with bad policy and profit seeking for their patrons, and then require millions or billions to fund their plans to 'fix' it.
"One of the principal causes of the widespread homelessness endemic in the United States today was the wave of S.R.O. hotel demolition that swept the country during the second half of the 20th Century. Across the U.S. an estimated 1 million S.R.O. units were destroyed between the mid-1970’s and 1990’s. The bulk of these demolitions happened in relatively short, intense periods. Chicago lost 80% of its 38,845 units between 1960-1980 (31,396 total units.) (Hoch and Slayton pg. 121) New York lost 60% of its units between 1975-81 (over 30,000 units.) Seattle lost 15,000 units between 1960-81, San Diego lost 1,247 units between 1976-84, Portland lost 1,700 units, and Denver lost nearly two-thirds of its S.R.O.’s during the period. (Wright and Rubin pg. 7)

In all of these cities, including San Francisco, there was concurrent demolition and conversion of many low-income apartment buildings. In San Francisco, between 1970 and 2000, almost 9,000 low-rent apartments were demolished or converted. Between 1980 and 2000, another 6,470 were converted to condominiums."

Santa Cruz County is one of the only in the USA to let you apply for food stamps with NO actual address.

This is attractive to bums and scammers, in addition to the usual assortment of addicts and crazies.

The politicians who run Santa Cruz are bleeding heart liberals and socialists; the residents are largely not so liberal but the students up at "Uncle Charlie's Summer Camp" vote them in.

One example of this is Rotkin, a UCSC professor "socialist" who runs for city council from time to time.

When I came to Santa Cruz in 1982 I thought it was cool, although cold and rainy; however the people running the place are fucking crazy.

California is like a beautiful ex girlfriend who spent your money too freely; you may miss her, but you decide she's not worth it.
Instead you visit California, like the girls who appreciate you for a brief time and know your financial limits.

The one size fits all pretense that lack of building causes homelessness might make sense if the homeless all worked. They don't. Working homeless are a small percentage of the group.

I imagine the homeless are a great handle for all kinds of non sequitur proclamations of blame for generating new sources of liberal spending. The homeless serve the agendas of many liberal groups and politicians, or they wouldn't be so conspicuous, so they are cultivated like political weeds. They would mostly dissolve without tolerant public enablement. Drying up the sources of drugs, alcohol etc. would make them break camp overnight and move to wherever they could get those things while scraping by on the public dole. You could build them castles to the skies, and if you put rules on them, they would still go back out into public and be homeless.

Why do you believe they "vote them in"????

I'm so sick and tired of people believing we have an authentic election system. It's TRIVIAL to have a verifiable election system. Fucking trivial and yet we don't have it, and you know why?

Because elections are COMMONLY stolen. Now sometimes, very very often stolen. The only time they aren't stolen is when it doesn't matter a goddamned who wins, because all the people running are owned by the same group of interests.
6   clambo   2022 Dec 18, 9:33am

Because they do.
Some guys sued to require the students to vote in the places they come from, since they are supported by their parents in other districts.
The thousands of students keep the lefties in control of Santa Cruz.

The reasons often offered include a moderate climate, the availability of generous welfare benefits, mental health and drug abuse. However, a lengthy and meticulously sourced article in the current issue of Atlantic magazine demolishes all of those supposed causes.

Rather, the article argues persuasively, California and other left-leaning states tend to have the nation’s most egregious levels of homelessness because they have made it extraordinarily difficult to build enough housing to meet demands.

Author Jerusalem Demsas contends that the progressive politics of California and other states are “largely to blame for the homelessness crisis: A contradiction at the core of liberal ideology has precluded Democratic politicians, who run most of the cities where homelessness is most acute, from addressing the issue.

“Liberals have stated preferences that housing should be affordable, particularly for marginalized groups … But local politicians seeking to protect the interests of incumbent homeowners spawned a web of regulations, laws, and norms that has made blocking the development of new housing pitifully simple.”

The liberals always drag out the straw man fictions that homeless are just like you and I, just 'down on their luck' for a while and need a helping hand, which they will gratefully accept in order to become useful cogs in the wheels of society again. It is their excuse to gain power over the public purse strings and evolve elaborate bureaucracies that depend on 'the problem' to exist and flourish, so to grow the bureaucracy requires growing the 'problem', which will never be solved and creates a bureaucratic feedback cycle of mutual accomodation.

The homeless aren't motivated by a desire for housing. They are motivated by interpersonal anarchy. They will create anarchy and lack of boundaries and rules wherever they roost, because they are slaves to substance abuse and low level parasitic endeavors. Once they embrace this paradigm, they could care less about housing except in circumstances of exceptional environmental hostility. Their horizon of perception is the next fix and the next handout.

Liberals never want you looking at the actual economics of homelessness, which are always eventually supported by corrupted politicians and social services virtue signaling while accepting bribes from drug dealers. The vileness of the virtue signal hypocrisy covering up essential corruption and cronyism is the high sign of Dem politics.

Homelessness is also the 'gateway relationship' of KommieKunt society. They want to reduce the majority of the population to gorks dependent on crumbs and mind altering substances, so homelessness is their political role model.

So what?

Can you verify the fucking vote or not?

If you can't, shut up. If you can't verify the vote, you cannot know it's accurate. Stop pretending a government that has lied us into the Vietnam war, Operation Desert Storm, Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya and Syria and is currently lying about a pandemic, the safety and efficacy of "vaccines", the 2020 election count, and the Ukraine War is just magically trustworthy.

When are people going to realize "gee, maybe I can't trust my government, maybe I should think about having some fucking oversight on them"?

Quit believing, naively, stupidly, that people are fucking stupid enough to elect these blatantly obvious criminals into power.

This is unmitigated bullshit and is the core of their dialog about 'fixes'. All it really does is play right into the hands of developers who can now tear down SFHs and build six-plexs in desirable neighborhoods.
Obama left behind a bunch of 'Affordable Housing Programs' that are ticking time bombs.
12   FuckTheMainstreamMedia   2022 Dec 18, 4:47pm

Yeah that’s not really correct.

First you need to understand that when you discuss or argue the topic of homelessness with a left leaning person or a Dumbocrat, their default position is that the homeless issue is not resolved until every last homeless person is successfully housed. This of course is an impossible to meet criteria as mental illness and drug and alcohol abuse are prevalent among the homeless. There will never ever be zero homeless unless the government makes homelessness illegal and vigorously enforced that law. What should be the goal is reducing homelessness to the point that it doesn’t affect quality of life for the rest of society. In other words, it’s illegal to camp and sleep on the street and in other public places and THAT NEEDS to be enforced. Lack of enforcement of anti camping laws is why former LA mayor Eric Garcetti is a cucked scumbag and why current mayor Karen Bass will fail to reasonably address the homeless situation(unless she low key and without publicity goes and enforced it, which I suspect may happen).

Also another item of importance is to recognize that “studies” on the homeless do not simply focus on the people sleeping and living on the sidewalks. Rather it includes people temporarily without housing who live in their cars, spend time crashing with friends and family, perpetually use temporary housing, etc. So you get study results that claim only 1/3-2/3 of homeless are mentally ill, addicted, or both. In truth, no one cares about the clean people who work and temporarily don’t have housing. Those people don’t cause quality of life issues. What people are concerned with is the filth and criminal activity associated with homeless sleeping on the streets. And of that group, the entirety is mentally ill, addicted, or both.

Now you can see how exhausting and tiring it is to discuss or argue this issue. Fucking paragraphs just to lay out the reasonable parameters of discussion, all because one side argues from a point of complete dishonesty. Not to mention that their real goal in all of this is government paid housing for everyone.

So anyway, City of Los Angeles had an overall homeless population under 20,000 individuals in 2011(it’s 3-4x that now) and the homeless population on skid row was under 2,500 persons…possibly fewer than 2,000. There were empty shelter beds each night and private organizations like Midnight Mission and Weingart Center were well able to address the homeless, without hardly any government funding.

Note this was all at the height of the last economic depression…unemployment was quite high yet relatively few homeless.

In 2013 Eric Garcetti was elected mayor and magically the LAPD stopped enforcing anti camping laws. I will note that Garcetti made a deal with the ACLU on this as well as homeless property issues. But note that I mentioned earlier that there were shelter beds available every night. That becomes important because of Martin vs Boise where the 9th Circuit laid out that a government can only enforce anti camping ordinances if there are sufficient places to stay.

City of LA actually had places for the homeless to stay, but scumbag Eric Garcetti directed LAPD not to enforce anti camping ordinances until the homeless population became large enough that they COULDNT enforce the anti camping ordinances. Of course this was done to attempt to force the federal governments hand and start providing government paid housing(which would have been pursued had Hildebeast won in 2016) but also was used to demand government funds via bond issue to help enrich scumbag Garcettis political allies, who set up psuedo non profits funded entirely by the government. The ones who suffer? The poor whose children have to walk in the middle of the street to avoid stepping in human fecal matter and needles as the sidewalks are blocked by tents and filth, the middle class who are subjected to break ins of cars and homes, and even the government sanitation employees, cops, firemen, and paramedics, all of whom are on the front line of dealing with all this crap.

That’s the stone cold truth, for Los Angeles at least.
13   Ceffer   2022 Dec 18, 4:56pm

Dems also promote homelessness because homeless generate demoralization in the progressive campaign to dismantle our society. The homeless undermine our public spaces with filth, despair, addiction, criminal behavior and ranting psychosis and reduce the enjoyment factor of cities and towns. They are tandem with the pedo-tranny-homo industrial complex and enablement of criminals as deputized destroyers of the social fabric and families.
14   FuckTheMainstreamMedia   2022 Dec 18, 5:08pm

I also want to note that somehow, someway, while the homeless population in LA was exploding, neighboring Orange County somehow found the way to remove its biggest homeless encampment, by Angels Stadium along the Santa Ana River. Over 1,000 individuals given the boot in 2018. In one fell swoop OC eliminated 25% of its homeless population.

In fact, OC, despite higher home prices than LA, reduced its homeless population during the last four years:

https://www.latimes.com/socal/daily-pilot/entertainment/story/2022-05-12/amount-of-homeless-in-o-c-has-decreased-according-to-homeless-count

Absolute proof of the corruption of LA and also proof of the absolute stupidity of LA Democrats and their supporters. I mean, to support someone like Eric Garcetti, you have to be dumb…really really dumb. Like you should be horribly embarrassed at how dumb you are.
15   FuckTheMainstreamMedia   2022 Dec 18, 5:13pm

OC population: 3.22 million
OC homeless population: 3,057

City of Los Angeles population: 3.849 million
City of LA homeless population: 69,144

Unfucking believeable.
