With these numbers in hand, we can make some inferences as to the total cost of human losses in Ukraine as follows:
1) For each soldier who dies, three soldiers are wounded. It is possible that both Russia and Ukraine have had 300,000 casualties (about half the population of Wyoming). A casualty can range from a military person with a minor shrapnel wound all the way up to someone permanently disabled.
2) Civilian casualties are hard to determine in Ukraine. The Ukraine government publishes a figure of around 7,000 dead civilians. In general, 8 civilians die for each soldier killed. If we focus on the 100,000 dead Russian soldiers it is possible that the civilian death toll could be as high as 800,000. It is a mind-boggling figure. I will leave you to reflect on this.
