Looks like europe is going back to coal for now, bringing coal plants back online. Looks like more and more EU countries are announcing this morning, but so far at least Germany, Italy, Austria and the Netherlands are making moves.

I looked at a few coal stocks but didnt see any price jump. Not sure if its because I'm looking at the wrong stocks, or if the coal demand from this move is insignificant, or if maybe it was just priced in some time ago.

US supposedly has some of the world's greatest coal reserves.

I did a Napkin calculation of Coal in the Powder River Basin. I figured 3000 years of supply at current rates. Most of this coal is "unrecoverable" (using current tech) and fairly "dirty," meaning, to meet EPA requirements they have to mix it with cleaner coal. All coal plants manage this to be just under mandated emission limits.
But that's just the biggest deposit. There are so many more.

https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2022/06/28/energy-crisis-government-to-restart-coal-plant-after-power-company-tsars-warning/

After a warning from the head of three power companies, France’s government has announced that it will restart a coal-fired plant this winter.

A coal-fueled power plant in the north-east of France is due to be restarted by the country’s government this winter in order to better combat energy insecurity resulting in part due to ongoing hostilities with Russia.

The announcement that the Saint-Avold will be brought back online comes shortly after the heads of three major energy companies in France warned that the general public must “immediately” cut back on energy use to better enable officials to better handle energy insecurity.

I thought France had arrived in the nuclear power paradise. Maybe not.

Germany is much worse that Texas with respect to CO2 emissions.

Damn...this is going to shorten up aoc's end of the world prediction by a couple of years. But it's worth it as long as they keep trying to pressure Putin.

Always have been. Europe did not go to mandated unleaded fuel until long after the US.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

The Euro-fucks are fucked. Between massive emissions with majority diesel cars and firing up the coal plants, when will we see the "killer fogs" that took place regularly in England in the 1950's through early 60's?

I think this is a good time to load up on (portable) solar with gel AGM batteries to weather the brownouts that may be closer on the horizon than we think.
