I just did my taxes and I have to write a check that is 120% larger than 2020.

At least I don’t have to pay California income tax anymore.

I’m wondering if I could pay a lot less by marrying a girl in Baja California Sur Mexico with a negligible income, then file “married filing jointly”.

I know that it will double the standard deduction to $25,000 for a start.

I’m going to research the subject; being married and breaking up in Mexico has almost no negative consequences unlike marriage in the USA.

There's probably a discount on Ukrainian wives right now

Long term capital gains tax

Filing Single, $40,400 income, 15% tax
Married, filing jointly $80,800 income, 15% tax

Maybe I can do a dummy tax return and put “married filing jointly” and see how the tax changes.

I paid for my sister's college and claimed "head of household" in California. Didn't reduce my costs overall, but helped my parents out.
