The wording is convoluted everywhere I've read. https://about.usps.com/strategic-planning/cs09/CSPO_09_109.htm

WTF is this? We got the image below in our mailbox. I can't discern if they're asking me to watch out for some neighbors or if we're being watched. Never heard of this. Anyone get this shit before? Just got the mail today and obviously PO isn't open.

Carrier Alert
The Carrier Alert Program recognizes that carriers can help monitor the well-being of elderly and disabled customers. A local sponsoring agency notifies the Post Office of persons who want to participate in the service and a decal is placed in their mailbox. Carriers will then be alert to an accumulation of mail that might indicate an accident or illness, and notify appropriate officials.

Hmmm, so you don't sign yourself up, a "local sponsoring agency notifies the Post Office" for you.

Creepy.

I'm going to the PO tomorrow. We did have a neighbor that had cops at their place 2 times in one day last week. She's elderly(ish) about 75 would be my guess. I think son and daughter live with her. Another neighbor with an older disabled son (50 or so) and the dad has to be 75-80. Both have had ambulance and police presence multiple times in 7 years.

We have one of those central mailboxes on the block and are out of town all the time. So our mail does stack up, though never full. The wording is weird. Wasn't sure if it was for us not getting our mail (box not full) or for a neighbor the carrier was/is concerned about. Legit have never heard of this.

If it's for us that's fucked up. We meticulously maintain our yard, have people over, we just sometimes forget the mail or are out of town. We do everything online. But then I'm also concerned the carrier is concerned for a neighbor in actual distress. Everything I've searched doesn't make sense. I'm of average to above average intelligence (I think) and what I've read on it doesn't make sense to me.

I'll find out tomorrow or someone else hopefully has some knowledge on this.

From what I read in the USPS link, a full mailbox can be used as an excuse to raid your home.

I'll find out tomorrow and report back. The OP photo was what was put in our box with 2 small pieces of mail. It's 3"H x 12"W and 16"D roughly. Could easily put 2-3 reams of copy paper in there. It was empty when they put this in. Thoroughly confused WTF this is.

If it's about a neighbor and not us, I'd obviously keep a watchful eye out for anything fishy going on with the two older folks on our street. The language is confusing. Like I said, I'll find out tomorrow. I've personally had a mailbox of some sort for 18 years and have never heard of this myself or from anyone I know.

Brain Fart: I wonder if a dead person registered to vote at the address? An unforeseen complication of mass voter fraud?

Lol. Not impossible. While I like my post office people in town, the rest I've encountered are mostly inept if not awful at their jobs. Did mass mailings in my past work, 90% delivery rate would be amazing. Not talking opening, we're talking even getting that piece of mail.
