Jeff Katzenberg launched the company in 2018 and brought Meg Whitman on board as CEO. Their streaming service launched in April but never came close to projected paid subscriber numbers. Many critics said the service failed to differentiate itself in an oversaturated streaming services market and that their ads missed the mark with consumers. Today the company announced they are shuttering the service in the near future.

What's great about being a CEO, you only have to get the job once. It wont matter if you ran the biggest consumer computer company into the ground, sunk deep in a 1500 foot deep crater. Just having the job once, is enough to hop from company to company as a CEO candidate.

She destroyed Ebay and HP, I can't imagine who picked her.

Meg Whitman lived (maybe still does) near the border of Atherton and Menlo Park. My wife worked at an elementary school near her house, and Meg frequently had amazing beautiful wooden boxes for wine bottles out in her trash. Wife took some and we enjoy using them to store things.

Before that, I didn't even know that rich people get wine delivered in nicely crafted wooden boxes, some of them oak.

Is that where wine experts tout that "woody" flavor?

I used to get them free from a liquor store. I staggered them and lined my entire garage wall with them as shelves

$1B in 6 months? Where did all the money go?

Malibu real estate?!

Quibi has recruited a who's who of stars to work on its programming, including Chrissy Teigen, Lebron James, Dwayne Johnson, Reese Witherspoon, Chance the Rapper, Kevin Hart, Jennifer Lopez, Idris Elba, Zac Efron, Tina Fey, Liam Hemsworth and husband-and-wife combo Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner (but on different shows), along with a bazillion others. It's also lured in big-name filmmakers like Steven Spielberg, Guillermo del Toro, Antoine Fuqua, Catherine Hardwicke and Ridley Scott to make series.

We need to have a serious thread on the subject of corporate management in this country. I'm basically a grunt but I know I'm about 25 IQ points up the ladder from my divisional VP. The difference is his Ivory league MBA.

These pricks are like a school of orcas. They destroy a company making decisions because they know they won't be around to reap what they sow. One of them gets hired at a new company and hires all of his or her's buddies and they do the same thing again. Rinse and repeat.

I can't remember the last time I worked for a manager that put profit first. I'm not sure my current management even knows that profit is a thing.

Side discussion. Most inane business "ism's" :

1) the customer is always right! Bullshit, there is probably 20% of your customer base that you should proactively fire.
2) I'm proud that we have all pulled together in this time of COVID like the family we are! Bullshit - they guy saying this barely knows the name of his wife and kids and spends every waking minute figuring out how to fly in to remote locations and get sucked off by his subordinates.
