I plan to buy one of those Japanese robots to take care of me when I'm old. Yeah, they ain't much now but by then they'll probably have a Rin-approved version that give narcotic BJs.

Of course they do. Regulatory capture is rife in that industry.

That and it's hard to get new customers/patients if they die at a higher rate than another waiting for death facility.

Is CA covering up nursing home deaths?

Because, the last place you would expect somebody to die is a nursing home?

Nah - if every patient in the US were to be discharged from their nursing home, there would be enough old people who are in group homes, assisted livings, at home and in the hospitals to fill them suckers up again.

Because the dirty truth is: If the government were to actually crack down on this industry, then prices for those facilities -- which are expensive already despite the fact that they pay workers there as much or less than McDonald's pays its employees and they understaff to boot -- would go through the roof.

The government IS cracking down - although in some odd ways. IMHO one way they've changed things is to go from the RUGS model to the PDPM model. It's harder for facilities to fraudulently bill for higher rates of therapy - but that applies only to rehabs, which is 90% of the nursing homes out there. And it only applies to those patients receiving rehab.

For nursing home - Long Term Patients - the government is making steps to hold facilities more accountable. But I do see fraud in the industry, all around me.
