My wife finally too is considering to take my going to Indiana offer. It’s too expensive here.

Same here wife's friends that moved to TX trying to get us to follow.
Some hospital in West SF Bay area tried to recruit her with 200k+ job even that is not enough to deal with bs there. If I didn't have cheap mortgage I'd so be gone and leave CA for good as it is I bet I could cash out and be mortgage free anywhere else it's more and more tempting every year.

Inertia is a powerful force.

My partner and me are both Local Kids.

Nearly all of our near-relatives, including our adult kids, leave in the region. If it weren't for our affinity for our family, we'd be outta here in a NY minute.

Some inlaws of mine approaching retirement age speak admiringly of Reno, and its environs, with No State Income Tax.

I dunno what the LA Area and other parts of California are like, but the Bay Area here is toxic for adolescents.

I could share so much Toxic Observations, probably write a whole book on it.

Three colleagues of mine in "tech" were touched by Teen Suicide in the past decade.

One a HIndu version of goddaughter. One the best friend of my colleague's child. One, the child of my colleague.

One by Caltrain, one by hanging + self asphyxiation, one by overdose.

One Chinese, one white, one Indian.

Lynbrook HS, Fremont HS, Palo Alto HS. All in "The Fortress".

All American Bay Areans.

The suicides are only the extreme cases.

I could fill volumes with other stories.

I have a distant teen cousin that committed suicide in Bay area I could never raise my kids there.

$63k average wage, $78k median household income, a million illegals in LA Count.

I rented a large loft in Downtown LA in 2010 for $1540 a month and they provided parking in a neighboring garage, a gym membership, $1000 prepaid credit card, and 2 months free. It was located in one of the nicest and safest parts of downtown.

Now it rents at $2800/mo and literally zero of the perks are included, not even the parking. I make $45k more a year than I made at that time and would have to scrimp to afford it at current prices. I doubt there are any single people still living there.......

Close the borders - no more illegals and rents will come down dramatically. Duh.

Keep in mind for many things financial, that right now, if you go back 10 years you find the bottom (or close to it) from the crash. So, all kind of "10 yr" stats are very inflated right now.

Los Angeles county. Everything costs a lot more these days, utilities, food, gas, etc...

Hey, don't knock LA! You can ski and surf in the same day.......if you own a helicopter.

Just think of all the fresh air you get from the good weather while crawling along at 5mph in traffic congestion for hours.

crawling along at 5mph in traffic congestion for hours.

Seems like you need to have airport style moving sidewalks....

This is a very good point.

Exactly the same situation 1yr ago when we had the worst Dec since the depression.

Over Christmas, one member of my extended family was quoting his stellar YoY stock gains and neglected to mention the reason for his reference point last year.

People are full of shit 😁
