So we now live in a world where we have projects to:
- simulate a human brain in a computer: https://www.humanbrainproject.eu/en/
- implement brain-computer interface: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brain%E2%80%93computer_interface
- extend human life, maybe eventually reach immortality. https://www.theguardian.com/science/2015/jan/11/-sp-live-forever-extend-life-calico-google-longevity
- genetically augment human intelligence: http://nautil.us/issue/18/genius/super_intelligent-humans-are-coming
- revive Neanderthal: https://metro.co.uk/2018/06/06/humanity-will-soon-be-able-to-resurrect-dinosaurs-and-bring-the-neanderthals-back-to-life-scientists-reveal-7603858/
- have mind control of prosthetic limbs: https://newatlas.com/mind-controlled-prosthetic-fingers/41886/
- change sex...

So here come super-humans immune to diseases & death, super intelligent, super strong... why not also make it also immune to the attractions of donuts? After evolution has built into us a taste for fat and sugar that used to serve us well as hunters/gatherers but now has to go. So do tribalism, some sexual dimorphy and role specializations, and pain. These cause waaay too many problems. Parents should also be able to pick skin and eyes colors in a palette that includes red, yellows, greens and blues. Why not? It's a few genes away. Depression has to go. A few genes control life time monogamy, so divorce can be eliminated. Love can't be left to chance.... And this is nothing: imagine the emotions of a human brain running in a computer. Are you so disturbed by constantly craving for your next toy? No problemo: let's program a perpetual orgasm. How about that?

What we are doing here is not just design and leaving evolution behind. It's a cosmic revolution that has to be seen in the history of life on this planet itself and how it came to be billions of years ago.

Reviving Neanderthal will serve us well, so we don't feel alone in the zoos where the last humans will end-up.

Nothing on that list, except maybe genetically altering humans, is anywhere near reality. Put them on the same list as interstellar flight and time travel. Even the long promised flying taxis and self driving cars are a decade away.

Neanderthals are alive and well today. Just look at (other political party)!

On a serious note, I believe the world won't end because of artificial intelligence. It will happen due to real stupidity.

Mind control of prosthetic limbs is a reality, and is fast becoming the gold standard.

Also these are a reality TODAY. Self driving cars exist and although they aren’t touted much due to a lag in regulatory process, people use them every day. I heard recently about a guy with a Tesla who was drunk and just told it to go home, passed out, and woke up in his driveway.
The flying taxis are being debuted now in Los Angeles where the traffic makes a short flying hop attractive. It’s a multiple rotor drone with autonomous pilot. No idea what a trip will cost.

Soon a robot will not just drive him, but do his job. He won't have to drive and will be drunk 24x7 playing video games in his bed.
Big improvement.

I work in the field and not true. Only about half of the things on that list are anywhere near reality. Saying things like, "a few genes", is a giant simplification as well. Also, AI isn't anything like emotions / limbic system. It's more like cerebral cortex.

Cool post though!

Flying taxis are called helicopters. They have been around for decades.

Cute, but "flying taxis" refers to an affordable alternative to ground based taxis, designed for the masses. Advances in electric engines and oversize "drone" style craft were supposed to usher this in, not jet powered choppers that cost $1,000/hour to operate.

None of this will happen, at least not in the next century.

Wake me up when they find the gay gene and genetic eliminate any form of cancer.

Until then, zzzzzz

Rats, cockroaches, and humans will survive.

I obviously wrote this post after reading "Sapiens".

What the world needs is more talented ruling psychopaths. The current crops have been nothing but Neanderthals.
