What do you guys think? I believe that certainly a percentage of what is made by foreign companies should be made here. Maybe a percentage of overall imports from every industry. Some industries can prosper in the US to make things for the US. Others cannot.

Are you sure?

Yes, I have the window stickers specifying Wayne and Lansing Michigan. A previous car just said "Edison" which was shut down and is now a shopping mall in NJ.

Trade war now. Americans can take care of themselves.

And put the borders on lockdown. Now.

Totally disagree. We should be able to buy anything we want from them, while making them buy our high margin products like planes and defense.
We want fair and free trade.

If it's sold in USA, it needs to be made in USA.

I think some should be made in the US, but if all are made in the US nobody will be able to afford to buy them.

How will that grow GDP, Einstein?

I don't mean applying tariffs, Strategist. I just think there should be a deal to make more stuff here. Like I said to ZZYZZX, not everything or we won't be able to afford the products.

I know what you meant. Your thinking is wrong. Your solution will suppress trade, while mine will increase trade to the benefit of all.

Right, before 1990, only the very wealthy had touchtone phones, Cars and Vans, radios, and 19" Color TVs because when these things were made it America at Union Wages, they were too expensive for ordinary people to buy.

Well, I think labor here is twice what it is in China. Now, granted they have to pay to ship to the USA. So that is an offset to double labor.

They are all better quality now. Had we stayed with Ford, GM and Dodge as they existed the world would have passed us by in quality. Ford changed to keep up. Not so sure about the other guys.

the problem i see is Japan, Taiwan, and Korea and now China too have been stealing businesses from the US. nobody buys electronics made in the US anymore.

the solution is giving out free citizenship to everyone with master and Ph.D from any countries, except India due to bad hygiene. and for every incomer we deport 10 random poor families on welfare, preferably from CA.

I'm not sure if this belongs in the funny picture thread instead:

So we can have even more unemployed or under employed college graduates?

A Tiny Screw Shows Why iPhones Won’t Be ‘Assembled in U.S.A.’

Despite a trade war between the United States and China and past admonishments from President Trump “to start building their damn computers and things in this country,” Apple is unlikely to bring its manufacturing closer to home.

A tiny screw illustrates why.

In 2012, Apple’s chief executive, Timothy D. Cook, went on prime-time television to announce that Apple would make a Mac computer in the United States. It would be the first Apple product in years to be manufactured by American workers, and the top-of-the-line Mac Pro would come with an unusual inscription: “Assembled in USA.”

But when Apple began making the $3,000 computer in Austin, Tex., it struggled to find enough screws, according to three people who worked on the project and spoke on the condition of anonymity because of confidentiality agreements.

In China, Apple relied on factories that can produce vast quantities of custom screws on short notice. In Texas, where they say everything is bigger, it turned out the screw suppliers were not.

Tests of new versions of the computer were hamstrung because a 20-employee machine shop that Apple’s manufacturing contractor was relying on could produce at most 1,000 screws a day.

The screw shortage was one of several problems that postponed sales of the computer for months, the people who worked on the project said. By the time the computer was ready for mass production, Apple had ordered screws from China.

The challenges in Texas illustrate problems that Apple would face if it tried to move a significant amount of manufacturing out of China. Apple has found that no country — and certainly not the United States — can match China’s combination of scale, skills, infrastructure and cost.

All the more reason to bring it back to the US.

Imagine China going to war with the US, but we won't be able to screw the guidance system into a missile because we outsourced almost all screw manufacturing to... China.

Translation- By using slave scale labor and no pollution laws, China can under price the US.

There is a lot to be said about that, we could always you know start consuming half as much shit to balance it out, like we did before being flooding with cheap shit from China. Would also help the Environment a win win for both sides of the political spectrum.

Tariffs are wonderful tools. America's original major source of revenue, and the #1 reason America wasn't Mexico.
