After six extensions, there is finally real possibility of a federal government shut down. I'm not sure what to think and how to play the market as this is something new. Could there be a 7th extension?

Any idea/theory is appreciated. I am leaning towards some leveraged short ETF in the interim

Do you honestly think these jokers are going to shut down the government and risk missing a paycheck?

Each congressman has a hundred lackies under him that are going to whine the second they miss a paycheck. It ain't happening.

Last time it came to this, congress figured out how to get a budget through for their lackies and Clinton said we're all getting a pay check or no one is. It was a real bluffing game, but it paid off.

It will be interesting to see if Obama is better at this than Clinton, or if the republicans have learned from their previous mistake and now know how to shut down the government and blame it fully on the democrats..

Guaranteed shutdown. Tea party folks were promised no compromises.

if they are shutting down all non essential services it won't impact anything IMO. Let them shut it down.

I honest think shut down is needed. Obama was hemorrhaging money to special interest like it grows on trees and the rest of us don't have to work for it. Republicans are trying to curb regulation on EPA which doesn't sound like a good thing either. Lights out are well deserved for both sides... (too bad we can't discipline them all by making them stand in the corner for a while, the way we do with small children)

And we now know: business as usual...
