Dude commutes 1.5 hours each way to job at Tesla. Gets up at 4AM when doing the commute. Sleeps in car to avoid commute. Makes $120k per year including stock options. Undergrad business degree from San Jose State. Recently laid off. Now selling his house. Plans to live in his car now, and use savings to invest in stock market.

California dreaming? Never mentions moving somewhere where there is a job and reasonable housing/rent. Gambling fantasies mean more downward spiral. The Tesla was a bad 'investment' to begin with, so that's the kind of investor he will be.

Cali Coastal starters these days are parental outpatient care or inheritance to stand a chance at being propped up long term fully housed middle class instead of fully hosed competing with the rich.

I remember the days when recent grad plastic surgeons who thought they 'deserved' to live in Cali were driving cabs on the peninsula waiting for some kind of opportunity. Eventually, you wind up going where you are needed if you don't have a drug or alcohol problem.

I did 1.5 hr commute for some time. Not pleasant but not all that horrible. Certainly not horrible enough to consider alternatives like leaving at 4am or sleeping in the car.

This is the kind of life that government and corporations have no problem with young Americans having.

He's doing it to himself by fixating on living in a particular area. This is a huge country with many opportunities.

If corporations had to deal with government instituted disincentive for shipping off jobs or importing cheap labor, he would still have better life standard, even in San Jose. Our governments seems to be favoring corporations disproportionately.

Back when I started out in QA and was working for peanuts I knew a guy who would sleep in his car because he hated traffic. My only regret is not being open to leaving sooner.
