I went to the big box hardware store yesterday and walked right past the greeter without my mask. He greeted me with a big hello. a couple customers gave me a funny look. A couple others avoided me. When I went to the self checkout the dude in charge directed me to the empty checkout and said have a nice day on my way out.

Later I went to my favorite local taqueria for pickup and noticed the staff had their masks hanging of their ears or on their chin. I walked in without a mask and bought my food. No questions asked or directives given.

I agree pushback is needed, but tread lightly in person. My opinion is just get away from it. I know you guys love CA and likely have family and stuff, but the rest of the country is not like the coastal/populated areas. No masks, no nothing.

If the intelligent people get out, those places will implode or maybe come back to reality. Even if you just move 50-100 miles away. In my town a house lasts 2-5 days on the market. People are fleeing cities and suburbs. IL is losing population but a subdivision is moving forward in my town that's been stalled since 2008. In state migration is happening big time away from populous areas because of crime, covid mask mandates and you can work from home. You don't necessarily have to move across the country.

Besides travel I just avoid places that "require" masks for entry. Restaurants though I just flat out ignore any signage and just say I'm going to be eating and drinking in 2 minutes if I ever get heat (not common). Even with travel, I just belly up to the bar any time of day and get a drink or food. On the plane I've started asking for water 3-4 times a flight. I'd say 20% of the time I wear a mask during air travel (airport or plane).

What I've noticed is the non-employee Karens have kind of disappeared with regards to masks. Maybe because they're vaccinated? Even employees. Went through TSA the other week and she said my mask wasn't sufficient, I said okay, she hands me one and I put it in my pocket and move through. No pushing me to put it on. Another TSA agent asked me to double up my neck gaiter. Was so tempted to ask if two condoms is better than one, but I don't seek conflict with air travel.

I had an elderly aunt just pass. Old, but in great health. Got the shot and a month later she was gone.

in my entire childhood, i cannot remember a single one.

yet here we had such a “large number of staff have a negative reaction to the covid booster shot” that they had to cancel school.
