California may wait until after Newsom recall election to enact sweeping COVID-19 vaccine mandate

California lawmakers are considering enacting a sweeping COVID-19 vaccination mandate that would require residents to show proof of vaccination to enter many businesses statewide — but it may not come until after the Gavin Newsom recall election.

The Sacramento Bee obtained a leaked version of the legislation, which would require restaurants, bars, gyms, movie theaters, hotels, sports stadiums and more to screen patrons for proof of vaccination. Similar policies have been launched in San Francisco and New York City, but the California proposal would be the first statewide legislation.

...

The Los Angeles Times reported that Gov. Gavin Newsom — who has typically been the one using executive power to implement COVID-19 policy — has been "quietly watching and providing technical assistance" to the lawmakers pushing the legislation. The paper reported that because the policy could prompt a backlash, lawmakers are considering "how such a sweeping statewide mandate could help or hurt Newsom’s chances of beating back a possible recall."

Still don't understand how this can be enforced for employers out of state with remote employees in CA. You could be working for millions of different employers around the world. Maybe it's for employers incorporated in CA only. What does our resident legal expert @HunterTits say?

Only part I care about is "and more".

Luckily I have friends that are vaxxed and will bring me food from the supermarket.

You know, these mandates will effectively result in a boycott of almost all businesses by about half of the population, maybe more.

Grocery stores and pharmacies etc. are exempt so you can go too ;) but pretty much everything else will be off limits for us deplorable. I can totally Iive with that and not support the local economy. But looking at some Tahoe Nevada properties for contingency, should they start fucking with remote workers

??? this is about business facilities within the state asking for customers to prove their status, not employees.

"In addition to the indoor business requirement, the legislation would also mandate that all employers require employees to either show proof of vaccination as a condition of employment or undergo weekly COVID-19 testing."

@HunterTits How do you interpret this? So you're saying only for employers who have business facilities or offices in CA?

Stupid Democrats. Really fucking stupid.

So LA county has a mask mandate even for outdoor venues. So masks required at Dodgers Stadium.

Watching the game tonight, about 60% of the crowd in non compliance. There’s not enough employees to make people comply.

So in places like LA, you’ll have the self important idiot Democrats looking to be snitchier than thou. And in places like Kern County, you’ll have almost everyone flipping the bird to anyone trying to enforce the vaccination mandate.

Don't do that.

Small businesses will not bother to enforce these stupid rules. Go to your corner Indian and Mexican market. Sure, they don't sell boxes of "food", but they sell actual food and often far less expensively than a chain does, because they source locally.

The only time I went to Safeway was to buy laundry detergent and soap. If I want food, I go to a little Indian market down the street. If I'm cut off from soap and detergent, there's always, ugh, Amazon - but the little stores sell that too, but I'm not familiar with the products.

You'll find that food at smaller stores is more variable, but it's not in cans, the owners appreciate your patronage, and they actually have quite a variety of food, and it's generally (but not always) less expensive. It's also often seasonal. You can't get lemons in January. Pay cash, leave no paper trail, fuck the establishment.

Uh, yes. Just like the state's minimum wage laws don't apply to employees in Nevada.

Thx appreciated. Should be good here then.

Not so sure but you have a better chance with them. But grocery stores will be exempt as it's consider essential for life. Generally I agree, let all those businesses participating in operation Mengele go bankrupt. They're not seeing a dime from me. Dis gon be fun ;)

Enforced? Most people comply like obedient good Germans. No need to enforce.

Yeah except for Germans and Europeans in general now protest more than Americans. However CA is a special case, we all know that.

Likely, but that should put another stain on the failed administration of California. The leftoid "pollsters" are starting to gaslight again, projecting newsom in the lead for defeating the recall, so they either know they have it rigged again or they are trying to get people to switch to the "winning" team. Still within margin of error though.

If you don't want to push a mandate because of political optics, maybe you shouldn't do it at all?

Too much bribe money involved. But you gotta stay in office to collect, so defer until after the election.

Did Germans really protest? I heard about French, Dutch, Italians and Spaniards protesting, but can't recall Germans doing it.

UPD. I searched - yes, they did.

Tens of Thousands Protest in Germany, France Against COVID-19 Vaccine Passports
BY JACK PHILLIPS August 29, 2021

Tens of thousands of people in Germany and France protested against COVID-19-related restrictions and vaccinate passports over the weekend, saying the restrictions infringe on their rights.

Enacting vax passports for retail stores is how politicians give Bezos a handjob.

"Donate to my campaign next year!!!!! shquickuh squickuh squickuh!!"
21   AmericanKulak   2021 Aug 29, 6:36pm

When there were piss-ass barely 1000 people for BLM or Rapefugees, US Media was like "Big Solidarity Marches for BLM/Rapefrugees in Europe today"

Same way they treated the Yellow Vests in France.

Omission, not lying, is the Media's biggest and most repeated sin.

https://www.seiu1000.org/post/union-wins-discipline-protection-vaccine-verification-battle-1

When the Governor announced a mandatory vaccine verification policy in a press release on July 26, 2021—without notifying the Union—and the State told the Union it was directing departments to start implementing new vaccine verification requirements, SEIU Local 1000 President Richard Louis Brown fought back. The Union immediately filed an Unfair Labor Practice charge with the Public Employment Relations Board (PERB) asking for expedited action. PERB granted the expedited action request and issued a Complaint charging the State of California with bad faith bargaining.

Hard fought negotiations led by President Brown netted all our represented workers important protections against unfair verification requirements:

The State must immediately stop its vaccine verification program in most departments until bargaining with the Union is complete.

The State must ensure that every department allows religious or medical exemptions from vaccination requirements.

The State must immediately come to the table and negotiate with the Union over the impacts relating to the vaccination verification policy – including negotiating over the Union’s proposals to protect worker privacy rights.

No employee will be disciplined for declining to disclose their vaccination status.

If any employee has already been disciplined for declining to disclose their vaccination status, the department must revoke it.
The settlement agreement is available here (link). Employees covered by the California Department of Public Health orders regarding employees in health care facilities and/or correctional settings are not covered by this settlement, but Local 1000 retains the right to meet and confer over those orders.

The next fight will be at the table. We need all workers to support the Union’s effort to protect our rights against unlawful actions. We continue to fight against unfair testing and vaccination requirements.

To read the agreement, click here. If you have questions about the requirements at your department, please contact the Member Resource Center (MRC) at 866.471.SEIU (7348).

They make it sound like a victory, but I don't think the SEIU has actually gotten any mandate suspended yet.
