Well, yeah!! Trump is "clearly" a racist, but Trudeau, well, he just made some "mistakes." In the past, you know, so they don't really count. He's a different person today! He's grown!

This line of logic always applies, UNLESS you're a conservative running for ANY position of authority. Like SCOTUS.
