Isn't this the point? Make it a punishment to make people think twice before committing a crime?

What would be the point of prison if it was fucking Disneyland?
2   RWSGFY   2019 Sep 12, 11:20am

What should it be? Inviting? Enticing? Alluring?
3   FortWayneAsNancyPelosiHaircut   2019 Sep 12, 11:21am

that is the point. Mot meant to be a Hyatt hotel with 5 star luxury accommodations.

Money needs to be spent on helping those who are working, on families with children. Not giving luxury to prisoners who commit crimes.

These people should be looking at 10-20 years, at least, or best case death in stir from sexual violence and cannibalism.

Justice is about deterrence, si?

Read the article: the fucking spoiled bitchez are whining about minimal security prison.

"... leaving behind their families and spacious homes and entering a world in which they live in overcrowded, noisy dormitories, eat “atrocious” food, are regularly demeaned by guards and have no control over their time and personal space."

That's all, folks. They are not afraid of rape or murder, they afraid they will have to "live in the dormitories" with the unwashed and "have no control over their time or personal space".

And how long will they have to endure these "unbearable horrors"? Decades, years? Right.

".. a one-month term for Peter Jan Sartorio, of Menlo Park; a four-month sentence for Majorie Klapper, of Menlo Park; and a 15-month sentence for Augustin Huneeus Jr., of San Francisco, a Napa Valley vintner."

Cry me a fucking river you fucking cunts.

Murderers, rapists and thieves deserve 5 star accommodations. What a soft society this country has become.

He was talking about the kind of people you put into the prisons and for what crimes, not the accomodations they get.

Don't misunderstand him, he wasn't talking about couches and armchairs.
8   Ceffer   2019 Sep 12, 4:37pm

That's what happens when you don't give every white collar criminal, with pleas busted down by rampantly paid, crooked lawyers and judges, their own butler and au pair.

It's all about how much justice you can avoid in style and comfort.

Which explains why the majority of U.S. prison inmates are rich white males

Love your sarcasm.
But I'm not sure where you are going with it.

58% white
37.6% black

In name of "equality" it should be 25% white, 25% black, 25% asian, and 25% Indian right?

Let's look at Russian, Iranian, Turkish, and Syrian Prisons, see what they're getting right.

This statistic probably counts hispanics as whites.
This is also just federal prisons.

13   FortwayeAsFuckJoeBiden   2019 Sep 12, 5:02pm

The point is prisons are either for crimes or for political dissidents. That’s what Dostoevsky spoke about.
14   Heraclitusstudent   2019 Sep 12, 5:06pm

93.2 percent of inmates are male. There must be some heavy structural sexism explaining different outcomes.

Deliberately tolerated rape of inmates, is absolutely not cruel and unusual punishment. It's totally normal that a majority of rape survivors in the US are male.
Just being imprisoned would be too easy.
15   MisdemeanorRebel   2019 Sep 12, 5:20pm

The rape thing is awful, and unnecessary. If prisoners are getting raped, the guards are being lazy fucks and it makes me wonder if they are in control of the facility or jerking off instead of watching the monitors.

However, I don't want to go to the Toothless European system, where property crimes and low level violence are actually tolerated because they don't wanna spend money on incarceration.

You can do just a few months for assaulting a police officer in the UK. Italian and French police don't want to hear about pickpockets.

Sounds like post-Prop 47 California.

Incarceration is a publicly traded equity: this is a just cause for national shame especially with the inequality, the wealth and the sheer numbers of the legions of incarcerated people.

California let a bunch of cranks and criminals go... how is inequality doing over there?
18   WookieMan   2019 Sep 13, 8:05am

I get people are found guilty when they're innocent. That sucks, but if it gets reversed they are usually rewarded handsomely with a nice big fat lawsuit and probably piss the money away anyway.

Who. Gives. A. Flying. Fuck. About people that break the law though. Not a fan of our drug laws, but if you're a criminal that has assaulted someone or taken others property (and worse crimes), you deserve to suffer. I think every inmate should get punched in the face daily by some professional boxer or kicked in the nuts by some NFL punter.

Jail/Prison NEEDS to be awful. Like really awful. More awful than the shit they're complaining about. The entire purpose of the system is to deter future crimes. It's no wonder the recidivism rate is so high among criminals. Free food and lodging is a thing.

Barr is letting off all of the Deep State perps, IHLlary, and Obama because of jail crowding.

What's more horrifying is the economic demand for more prisoners to serve as slave laborers and the lobbying for extending sentencing to make them even more profit.

Incarceration is a publicly traded equity: this is a just cause for national shame especially with the inequality, the wealth and the sheer numbers of the legions of incarcerated people.

Creepy fucking shit!

There is a lot of truth in this. One of the very few required functions of a State is a court and prison system, which should never be privatized and turned into a for-profit enterprise. However, for some reason, State is taking on boatloads of functions it should not (like Department of Education) and shedding few responsibilities it should have - privatizing prisons. While people who commit crimes should be in prison, their labor should not be used for profit of private companies, as it screws up sentencing incentives.
