Thinking and public speaking these days is carefully self-censored, lest an objective consideration of facts and probabilities lead to unacceptable conclusions, even within one's own mind.

One can see the case of James Damore's firing from Google as exactly self-censorship on the part of Google, because objective consideration of facts and probabilities led Damore to the reasonable conclusion that most women simply do not like engineering as much as most men do.

And from that unacceptable but reasonable conclusion came another unacceptable conclusion: the relative lack of women in engineering is not primarily due to any kind of discrimination, but instead is due to women self-selecting out of engineering. This contradicts the official narrative about Bad White Men, sparking the discomfort of cognitive dissonance in Google management, so Damore had to go.

We see this same kind of thinking with respect to religion. Objective consideration of facts and probabilities leads to the reasonable conclusion that the religion is not true in a literal sense. The religion may have great benefits in terms of community and purpose, but it's not likely to be factually correct.

Leftism these days is a religion. It does provide people who feel bad about themselves and their inability to accomplish things with a community of similar people who also feel bad about themselves and who have found an enemy to jointly blame: "racists" and similar bogeymen.

An objective consideration of the facts and probabilities would however lead them to the fact that America is nearly the least racist country on earth, with the best prospects for self-advancement through hard work.

How can we help leftists escape from their prison of hatred for people with confidence and optimism?

Maybe we all need to hug a suffering leftist and invite them to join us, and to encourage them and help them to develop their abilities and confidence.

Very open minded rational and objective view of "leftists" there Patrick.

No projection, hatred or self hatred there whatsoever.

I changed the last part and it works even better, for hate from the other side.

I think they would rather have the fruits of you labor re-distributed to them, or the people they deem needy.

It's a shame people have to censor themselves; I luckily only keep my mouth shut for reasons of decorum and not being rude in social settings.

Listening to an opinion about anything is sometimes like listening to music; I can handle mine, but I don't want to listen to yours.

Among my friends I am free to say things and usually don't worry about the consequences; nobody can fire me.

If people think I am "mean" I say that I'm against large government and its various intrusions on our lives and wallets. This covers just about everything I need it to cover.

Keep in mind that most democrats are moderate, and many such as myself despise identity politics, including the type that you (Patrick) play, by trying to cast me as a leftist, just becasue I'm honest enough to acknowledge the racism that Trump exploits.

When I listen to Jonathon Haidt, who is a liberal at heart, criticize todays far left and the dominance of humanities departments, he does it in a much less hateful and biased way than you do. I can appreciate an honest criticism of the left. But for some reason that's not possible for TRump Cucks. Too much hate there, and defensiveness about their racism.

Keep in mind that most democrats are moderate

So which of the 20-odd Democrat Presidential Candidates would you consider moderate?
6   Ceffer   2019 Aug 3, 12:16pm

Better to be moderately insane rather than foaming at the mouth completely insane. See, even liberals are beginning to embarrass each other.

He has a negative attitude toward individualism.

I'm probably a bigger fan of Jordan Peterson than you are, and the importance individualism is probably his biggest underlying message.

"Racism" accusation right on cue

It's not an accusation. My definition of racism is simply different than yours. Your version of "woke" is being aware of what liberals just don't understand about how diversity is actually bad, and about what black crime statistics tell us about black folks, or what the Koran tells us about Islam, or about how illegal immigrants crimes make things Trump has said totally defensible.

Your sense that we need to be educated about these realities, these truths, becasue PC culture wishes to hide it from us, and we probably just don't get it like you do. Well of course that's not racism.

Newsflash dude. If that's not racism, I don't know what is.

Ironic title for this thread

Funny. I thought it was your fears that I couldn't relate to.

As for confidence and optimism, I could name dozens of confident and optimistic men and women that I have extreme admiration for. Some of whom are conservatives.

It's not Trumps confidence and optimism that I don't like, and in fact I don't believe that he has all that much of either attribute, except possibly to some extent as they pertain to himself. It's funny what inheriting $400 million will do for your confidence and optimism regarding your own personal situation in the world. .

Elon Musk. Now there's a confident and optimistic billionaire to admire. He thinks beyond himself and enriching himself. You can argue that Trump does this too, by being willing to be President. But I don't buy it. Seems more like a narcissistic ego trip to me.

Little long at 20 minutes but she nails the issue in the first 6. Has the data and everything to prove this issue is stupid.

I'll check it out later. You know I'm not down for identity politics, and identity politics on the left is seriously messed up.

But I don't like the stupid generalizations about the left. I've said this before, and people want to deny it, but I don't peg all conservatives as stupid racist assholes. In fact I admire a lot of real conservatives, especially these days, becasue real conservatives reject Trumpism. My fondness for 98% of what I've heard from Jordan Peterson should tell you a fair amount about me. I don't peg all Trump voters as racist assholes either.

But the least they could do is be honest not only about how much of a lying douchebag TRump is, but also about how low he stooped to get elected. Instead what I hear is still too often about how refreshing he is. Fuck that.

But my point is, don't peg us all as SJW simpletons, just as payback if you happen to be one of those true blue Trump lovers that can't help but be attracted to the racist aspect of Trumpism.

I wanna know which of the Dem Candidates is Moderate.

It's so bad that Democrats spent the Debates implying that Obama wasn't radical enough, and he was the most left-wing President in half a century.

Even Obama and his top aides are "exasperated" at how far left the Dems are positioning themselves:

CNN reporter Rebecca Buck on Friday said former president Barack Obama is "expressing exasperation" over the Democratic Party's movement to the left.

CNN's Newsroom co-host Jim Sciutto mentioned Obama wasn't pleased by criticism from Democratic presidential candidates and asked Buck what she was learning behind the scenes.

"As you know, Obama has been trying to stay out of this primary as much as possible, keeping quiet, and not making any endorsements even with his former vice president Joe Biden in the race," Buck said. "But privately Obama, our CNN colleagues are reporting, is expressing exasperation at how far left the party is moving on some policy issues and of course breaking with some of the things he did when he was president."

"Primaries are all about the legacy of the last president where the party is moving, and it's no secret that the Democratic Party right now has been moving far to the left policy-wise relative to the Obama administration," Buck continued. "And it is for many of these candidates a balancing act because Joe Biden of course is essentially a third term of President Obama."

CNN on Thursday reported Obama allies were not happy about the Democratic presidential candidates attacking Obama's record on health care and immigration. Former Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel, who served as the first White House chief of staff in the Obama administration, railed against the candidates..

"We have seen this movie before. Democrats need to wake up," Emanuel told CNN. "I would not treat the Obama years as something to be airbrushed out of history. Every one of these things needs to be built upon."

During the CNN debate on Wednesday, New York City mayor Bill de Blasio pressed Biden on whether he attempted to persuade Obama against the mass deportation of 3 million illegal immigrants, but Biden dodged the question. De Blasio followed up to ask again about the deportations, but Biden dodged again, saying, "I was vice president. I am not the president. I keep my recommendations in private. Unlike you, I expect you would go ahead and say whatever was said privately with him. That is not what I do."

I would have said Biden, but he's spent the past few months moving to the left on Anti-White Racism, Government Health Care, Open Borders, etc.

They are fucked chasing away independents and pushing centrists right. They live in gated bubbles inside Shithole cities where they have zero contact with most normal people that have to work for a living.

Trump lovers that can't help but be attracted to the racist aspect of Trumpism.

And he's back...........

If you had shown these Dem debates just 15 years ago, most people would think the candidates were MKUltra'd on a combination of LSD and crack. That we have become desensitized to this degree of madness shows how oppressive and successful the Deep State has become.

I watched most of it. I agree with most of what she says. I like that she acknowledges Trumps use of race as a distraction (there's a lot implied by that, that agrees with my point about Trump supporters - Trump's not just trolling the liberals - he's causing his base to take his side - for behavior that's not Presidential- and yes that is at least superficially racist)

I think Trump is very careful to walk the line with his comments, to ensure that they aren’t overtly or actually racist. That said, they aren’t Presidential, and i don’t like seeing that. They DO tend to call out glaring flaws in Democrat policy and politics, vast contradictions that absolutely should be addressed. With the abject failures of Democrat-run cities and states, we can’t go on pretending the Emperor is wearing clothes.
If it takes someone to be the asshole, I guess Trump is that man.

I agree. Trump's personality and tactics sometimes annoy me, but I happily accept those things in exchange for his willingness to point out that the flaws in Democrat policies that the media will not, and for all he has actually accomplished for the country.
