Oh, and in advance:

zerohedge is a web site, you don't need Facebook to read it.

Nope, but between Google, Facebook, and Twitter, that's an overwhelming majority of referrals. You have to know about a site to visit.

1) The establishment lost control of the propaganda as people moved from TV to Internet.

2) Facebook is the most powerful propaganda platform ever.

3) The establishment openly opens fire on FB, threatens to break it up (see Warren).

4) Easiest fix for FB: keep the same business model, and the money, but hand some control to said establishment.

It's all God's work.

zerohedge sounds like a Russian propaganda outlet: constantly mocks US institutions, monetary policies, markets, politicians, is pro-Putin, perma-bear, always emphasize catastrophes, crashes and accidents to foster a sense of chaos.

Not a big loss.

That’s what cnn does.

True, but if people share it, they share it. Why should FB give a shit? Only to act as Censors for the Clerisy.

Nah. CNN is controlled and doesn't mock the Fed, the markets, and only plays people against one an other to the extent it is useful to the establishment.
8   FortWayneAsNancyPelosiHaircut   2019 Mar 11, 5:20pm

So zerohedge does it by not being useful to establishment. The useful part is the only difference.

Isn’t that censorship under 1st amendment?

Personally I don't understand why people think it is ok for Russia or China or Iran to run propaganda operations inside the US.

Propaganda operations work, are orchestrated and generally not the same as individual free speech, and they are extremely toxic to the national tribe and the unity and moral of the nation.

I understand it may be hard to avoid if you are talking of thousands of individual trolls exercising free speech, but there are some clear cut cases.

This is the essence of the problem.

I can imagine a completely decentralized network of individually owned servers (maybe even our phones) where we can share what we like with people we know. It just has to be easy, because most people don't have time to learn too much tech. Could have quite a wide reach if you simply review links posted by your friends, and friends of friends, etc.

Internet samizdat!

Ahhhh, No

ZeroHedge is a repository of articles written by other authors. They occasionally post their own material, but the bulk is just a repost of something else.

But you're OK with US based sources like CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, NBC and WaPo and NYT running their own flavors of propaganda operations?

Why not use banners ?

Put a banner next to a trusted site.

Do this instead of censoring sites like Zero Hedge.

At least the reader knows there is no banner next to Zero Hedge, but is able to still read it.

Pat, reading your post I was inspired to an analogy:

It's like being banned from the YellowPages back in the day.

Sure, you have a sign on Main Street, but if people don't write your number down they won't call you, and word of mouth takes time to build. Indeed "word of mouth" has been largely replaced by "words on Social Media" since that's long since replaced talking over the phone as the primary personal communication tool, so really it constrains "Word of Mouth" as well.

I think of all the sites I discovered by social media and linked to this forum (Kunstler, Last Refuge, Naked Capitalism, ZeroHedge itself)

It's much easier to attract traffic if you advertise as "AAA Plumbing"

minds, steem, bitchute, d.tube, mastodon/pleroma, gab, dissenter, many others... all this censorship is causing a lot of innovation. just explore and you'll find it.

i myself am working on resurrecting some nearly forgotten steganography techniques and algorithms to apply towards the problem at hand. How to hide information in plain sight type of thing, whether encrypted or not. Perhaps a browser plugin; perhaps baked directly into the more willing open source privacy-based browsers...

fuck all these censorial little dictators. been through way too much of a ride at this point to see it fall to these witless useful idiots.

Every single article on ZH mentioning Putin sucks Putin's dick. Seems pro-current-Russian-regime

Decentralizing is an idealistic goal that adds nothing functionally and tends to make things worse technically.
Even blockchain access is largely centralized.
Even Patrick.net is centralized.

And Fox News... Absolutely!
Politics is mostly propaganda, as is commercial advertising, and it's perfectly appropriate in a democracy.
Foreign propaganda attempts to tear the nation into pieces. This is not the case for politics.

Though nowadays politics is really becoming too radicalized to be helpful.
