I wonder how many of Obama's 57 states has Trump visited?

Pretty good comments there. The article is spot on. Liberals are just too naive, but they grow out of it to become conservatives. So there is hope for them.

Come on, weren't we all liberals as teenagers at some point, eventually realizing just how dumb that is, and steering off toward reality? I'm optimistic about their chances.

There's a reason the saying is true.... "Ignorance is bliss!"

Most conservatives are religious... Just by believing in God they have a ticket to a lifetime vacation in heaven. Most people are very happy and content 1 week out from a vacation. Now make that vacation eternal and of course they are happier and more content. For those of us that can't turn our logical brains off to believe in fairy tales... we have to search for deeper meaning in this chaotic universe. Going down that path can be rather depressing.

Yet polls show that Conservatives are typically better informed on the issues than Liberals.

Conservatives are marinated in Liberal group\-think our whole lives through non-stop programming by our media, Hollywood and academia. So we grow up knowing both sides of the issues and have to have tougher skin to stand up for our views.

Liberals can go their whole lives and insulate themselves from Conservative points of view. Especially when they reach college and their formative years. When Liberals occasionally stumble upon a Conservative POV - it is so alien to them it makes them angry. "How could people think this way? No one I know thinks this way.........they must be raaaacist!"

If you don't believe in God or a higher power and everything is just random chaos - why are you looking for "deeper meaning"? And what would a "deeper meaning" look like other than a grand creator?

Wouldn't your "logical" brain just tell you it's lights out at death..........and to stop worrying about what comes after and enjoy the time you have on earth?

Seems to me that atheists and agnostics should have less to worry about and be more happy. But they are not happy.

Yeah it has nothing to do with ignorance or intelligence. There are believers and non-believers across the full spectrum and likely fairly evenly distributed. I do think it is deliberate propaganda by lamestream media and elites that eventually causes people to groupthink and be mad at all the rays cysts who don't think like them. Divide and conquer.

The problem mainly you only have 2 choices... What options does a fiscally conservative and socially liberal atheist have in the current environment? Trump is treating the presidency like a reality tv show.

You can support the Trump policies and presidency without being a fan. In the end policies, concrete actions matter, not feelz or how you mince words. I consider myself fiscally conservative and socially liberal as well (despite being Catholic). But I see no policies/laws enacted/signed by Trump that have harmed minorities or changed basic daily life. I supported Rand Paul but it was clear soon he isn't going to win. I'm not always with Trump and his deliveries but we dodged a major bullet by defeating Hillary and that deserves credit.

That's how I feel about religions. I don't really care what people believe. I care what they actually do. Monogamy, for example, reduces the spread of disease and provides children with a stable home. Maybe people think it's the will of God, but either way, it has beneficial effects.

Absolutely. The Donald's main virtue is that he saved us from Hillary. All his other accomplishments are just bonuses, but they are yuge as well: end of TPP, the tax cut, the stock market rise, publicly pointing out unfair trade, opposition to illegals who lower wages for the poorest US citizens, peace with N. Korea, shaming NATO into paying their fair share, and on and on.
