"Adam Bloom, the former homeowner's association board member who lost his job on Friday as a result of a "traumatizing" confrontation with a black woman at a Winston-Salem pool when he asked to see her identification on the Fourth of July, issued an apology Friday afternoon."

Abhulimen is a pharmacist from Nigeria. (One of the San Bernardino terrorists was a pharmacist from Pakistan. Among Muslims, education and wealth increase the risk of terrorism.) Northern Nigeria is overwhelmingly Muslim, and Nigerian Muslims are notorious for slaughtering and otherwise abusing Christians, who are necessarily inferior according to Islam. Watching the video, the first thing that struck me was Abhulimen's tone of indignation and outrage that an inferior had dared to ask her for ID. Nevermind that he is the pool chairman and it is his job to enforce pool rules, including the residency requirement, she looked for ways to attack him, demanding to know how she could file charges of "racial profiling." In reality, nobody recognized her at the pool, and Bloom was responding to an inquiry by a fellow board member who said Abhulimen had stated an invalid address.

Abhulimen's baseless attack against Bloom appears to have worked. He has had to resign as pool chairman, and from the HOA bard. His employer, a packaging company called Sonoco, fired him because of the "terrible" incident.

As far as I can tell, he had done nothing wrong. In the video, he behaves calmly and rationally, merely asking for ID. The only person who even raises a voice is Abhulimen, who sounds outraged and refuses to produce ID. It's a suburban neighborhood, how could she have even got to the HOA pool without a driver's license? Operating a motor vehicle without a license in the vehicle is a violation in itself. Yet, her outrage seems to intimidate even the "courtesy officers" who responded to Bloom's call. In the end, she never produces ID, only a key card. Reportedly, she did in fact reside at the second address she gave; when that was confirmed, Bloom apologized.

Too late. Already fired, resigned, and vilified on social media, Bloom is a pariah. He says he has received death threats against his whole family. Anyone who dares to defend him is threatened and insulted by people who do not even consider the merits of the case. They do this on FB, using their real names.

The big question is why is this national news? Last night ABC Evening news had a bit where a store clerk doubted the authenticity of a coupon an black woman wanted to use. Again, quite a small incident to take up a segment on national news. In both cases, the pool incident and the coupon affair, the people who dared question the card/coupon were fired from their jobs.

Seems to me that the reason for national attention being granted to these trivial incidences is a reaction to the "walk away" movement. Since the Black vote is critical to the Democrat party, the "walk away" movement must be countered by publicizing any incidents where a black person is challenged, and always attribute that challenge to racism.

No, the story was about how he CALLED THE COPS on her.

Who cares? This is a needle in a haystack type scenario. There are far greater transgressions against minorities and this is the one that makes headlines? It's private property and they can have any rules they want within reason. This is one of the dumbest news stories I've heard in a while. Both parties are fucking idiots in my book and the fact this is getting any attention outside of maybe a local news broadcast is insane.

Scary Authoritarianism.
It's the modern day equivalent of Mao's Red Guards during the Cultural Revolution. Highly educated, fully qualified people regularly lost their jobs and in some cases their lives because they didn't toe a particular party line.

Sure, label it egregious. But it's emblematic of what problem? Something that happens to a fraction of a percentage of our society? You cannot eliminate bigotry. It's going to happen. This isn't some utopia.

Sick of all these minor, fringe issues being made out like it's WW III. People need to get outside and do shit instead of harping over someone asking for a damn ID at a pool. This is so trivial it's nauseating. This wasn't some government police force walking down the street asking some Muslim for their ID. It was a fucking HOA for christ's sake. Just because one dude, in one HOA asks for an ID, doesn't mean there will be some domino effect where we jail all Muslims on site and ask for their ID. The theatrics around this type of shit is just stupid.

According to his attorney, Bloom had responsibility for hiring pool staff (e.g. lifeguards, maintenance), and enforcing pool rules (including the residency/guest requirement). A community pool can require a lot of maintenance and supervision, especially if many children are using it.

LeonDurham says
Why would anyone own someone's house?

If you want a list of reasons to own a house, ask a Realtor (TM).

Abhulimen called the HOA pool "my own pool." How nice of her to allow others to use it all these years!

Aphroman says
When you stay at a hotel, you use the room key as identification

It isn't a hotel. At a hotel, the pool is generally on hotel grounds, and guests walk from their rooms to the pool. This story involves a HOA community pool, with a parking lot full of cars. People drive there. They need driver's licenses with them in order to drive there. If a police officer pulls you over and asks to see your license, and you have only a blank key card, that would be a moving violation in itself.

The issue that got my attention about this story was the witch hunt. A friend "shared" the video and I thought it could be seen a number of ways, and required more information to understand why it happened, and I didn't think anything further about it. Then I read the video had gone viral, and a social media campaign of SJW witch hunting had resulted in Bloom resigning from the HOA board and getting fired by his employer, a packaging company called Sonoco. The story went around the world. Huge numbers of people rushed to condemn Bloom, some of them without even watching the video, let alone asking for more information. They condemned anyone who defended him, too. There were death threats against his family, and terrible comments on social media as 2Scoops noted. People who said asking for ID was reasonable were told that they should die for believing that.

I did read further, and found an issue that none of Abhulimen's supporters here or on social media seems even to have bothered mentioning. Her lawyer wrote that other residents identified her as a resident, and asked the pool chairman not to call the police. When I saw that, I tried to update the OP to remove the statement that no one recognized her. PatNet seems to have a new "feature" that prevents editing after a certain time limit, so I could not update the OP. The two board members did not recognize her, but according to her lawyer, other residents did recognize her. That raises questions. If the board members recognized the other residents, why did the board members not believe them? If the board members did not recognize the other residents, why did Bloom not ask them for ID? I do not know the answers, but neither does anyone here, because we were not there.

The dangerous issue here is the rush to condemn for alleged "racial profiling," and the extent of the campaign, with huge numbers of SJW virtue signalers congratulating themselves and each other for successfully persecuting someone they had never met for an allegedly "terrible" incident that they did not even witness or know much about. I do not know if he was innocent or guilty, because I saw only the video and then read what I could, and it didn't add up to enough information to judge him. He said he asks people for ID two or three times per week, and his lawyer says the same, and from what I could see on social media other neighbors (regardless of color) had also resented being asked for ID. If the guy annoys everyone equally by asking them for ID regardless of color, that isn't racial profiling. But when a white guy asks a black woman for ID, legions rush to burn him at the stake. A PatNet user called it "a classic case of racial profiling." That's plainly false. A classic case of racial profiling would require evidence, not merely an assumption based on the fact he's white and she's black. In fact, the presumption of guilt could itself be called racial profiling: ask yourself, if he had been black, and she had been white, would people have called it racial profiling? Hardly anyone seems to have taken the time to ask for evidence before rushing to judgment, and in an era of social media, ignorant mob rule had serious consequences IRL.

Yes, especially since TDS. Even after most of the phoned in threats against Jewish community centers turned out to have been phoned in by a Jewish teenager, and even after other incidents turned out to be false flag phonies, press continued to report that there had been record numbers of anti-semitic incidents. That's all part of the 'nuclear Hitler' narrative, fake news trying to paint a grandfather with Jewish grandchildren as the reincarnation of Hitler, who had no children.

Worse, that baseless mob mentality seems to have taken over the Democratic party, resulting in one party (Republican) rule. Democrats have collectively lost the ability to have a rational discussion based on evidence and reason, which is ironic, because they used to be "the reality based community."

In a fevered mob climate, saying people should look for evidence seems like heresy. Many would rather chop off their own heads, or import terrorists to do that for them, to signal their virtue. They cherish a fantasy, in which they are crusading for goodness and anyone who disagrees is evil; in fact, their actions are self-defeating.

Didn't say that was my solution. There are some unsolvable things in the universe. You can't fix broken people and if you think you can then you wouldn't be here on patnet.

There is always going to be bigots, racist, etc. I'm not saying stop trying to prevent this behavior, BUT it is always going to be there. I'm not saying don't acknowledge it and try to prevent, but in this case it seems like pure childish bullshit. I assume this person has never bought alcohol and was then asked for an ID? It's very commonplace in our society to be asked for an ID whether it's an HOA, grocery store, private property or whatever. This whole news story reeks of someone being a little cunt and wanting attention. Well they got it I guess.

Trivial is the key word here. The fact this is even national news and that even on patnet, we have 40+ comments, is mind boggling. This is one of the dumbest faux outrage situations I've read/heard about in a while. Fuck the pool boy and fuck that bitch for even caring. SJWs are racists, hence "Whiteness Studies". They don't teach universal human nature, but that there's something particularly oppressive about Europeans but not about Non-Europeans.

Such as ignoring the Mughals were more exploitative of Hindu India than the British, or the ritualized terrorism of the Triple Alliance that was part of daily life.

Nope. King David was the HQ of the British Military who failed to live up to their promise to Quit.

The Muslims of Deir Yassin THEMSELVES say there was no massacre, that the PLO made them into cowards when they fought Irgun until they ran out of bullets, then fled. Their wives and children were long since sent to Jordanian lines.

Terrorism is attacking civilians, like a Palestinian blowing themselves up in a cafe or a Sinn Fein member bombing a WW2 Veteran's Parade.

Jews aren't mowing down people with a Truck or emptying hundreds of rounds into Rock Concert Crowds or shooting up their co-workers who just had a baby shower for them. .

That was actually one of her arguments. It's like saying you can walk into a bar without ID, even if a sign at the door says you have to be 21, if the sign doesn't also say "...and you need to show ID." Or that carrying a beer proves you are over 21. Or that you can board a plane without showing ID, if there isn't a printed sign at the gate saying you must show ID. The sign said "residents and guests accompanied by a resident." The pool chairman asked for ID to show whether she was a resident or not. She is evidently new in the neighborhood, yet she seems to expect that everyone must recognize her, even people she has never met, or at least that they must not dare to ask her for ID.

The problem is that this has become an extortion business for any "protected minority" do jour, be it muslim, black, lgbtqq=xyzawesome or even women. It's not different than those lawyer skanks leeching around in supermarkets, restaurants and where not just trying to find any ADA violations they can sue the business owners for. Oh errc, I have missed you. The Aphroman avatar doesn't compare.

Abhulimen was asked for ID, which is a common request most people encounter routinely: at retail, banking, medical, etc. She is a pharmacist, and pharmacists ask dozens of people for ID every day. When people move, if they don't yet have new ID, they carry their old ID and something with the new address on it, e.g. a utility bill. Americans relocate once per decade on average, so it is a common experience.

As for TDS, it does apply to the comments invoking Hitler. Those insult the memory of the millions who perished in the Holocaust. The paranoia about cavity searches is a lesser example of the same category. And the historical ignorance of TDS victims who forget that Hitler and the leading Muslims of his day agreed on the similarity of their beliefs, and formed part of the same axis, enthusiastically murdering Jews, is breathtaking and sad. Here is a photo of the actual Hitler meeting with the grand Mufti:

The only thing that makes it news worthy is the fact the police were called. People should know when resources are wasted over trivial shit.

I actually 100% agree with this. I also believe she could have just provided an ID and moved on with her day. It’s not like she was in her front yard and this dick was asking for her ID on her own property.

While it’s a community property, it’s still private. If this were a arbitration type situation I’d put blame equally on both parties for being idiots. Unless the dude comes out and says it was profiling or it’s found out through a lie detector or whatever, we have zero clue what the true motivation was. He literally may have been doing what he was supposed to in that situation. He also could be a jackass.

In the end, when we recount the top news stories of 2018 I think most intelligent people will write this one off as fucking retarded.

Admittedly, I’d probably be pretty pissed. That said, if a threat was made to call the cops I’d probably provide ID if I was authorized to use the pool but I’d make a massive scene out of it for sure. Make the guy look like an ass.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think pool boy was acting appropriately. That said, the whole situation didn’t need to escalate into what it did. Sometimes it’s called being an adult. There were two in this case and I don’t think either behaved as one. I’m a Monday morning quarterback here, so I understand my view may be flawed. Fact remains that two adult humans couldn’t figure out how to interact in a pretty simple fashion.

Not a good look for our society regardless of which side you’re on with this story.

What did the woman do wrong here?

I’d say nothing. But it’s not too big a deal to just show ID. This had the potential to be a complete non-event and two adults acted like idiots in my opinion. An HOA pool is still private property. There are still golf clubs out there that won’t let you in if you have a vagina. This is FAR less oppressive or racist in my opinion.

Most the blame is on the HOA guy for sure. That said, she could have showed ID and moved on with her day. He wasn’t asking for sample of her DNA or anything. She literally could have just grabbed the plastic card out of her purse or pocket and told the guy to fuck off and still shame him and make a scene. Probably still had him fired as well.

I personally don’t think there’s 100% blame on one party or the other. Normal, intelligent adults would have talked it over and figured out a solution. At least I think I would have if I was in either persons shoes.

This divisive attitude so prevelant now is rather alarming. As I’ve said before, even the most disagreeable people here on Patnet would probably have a very good and normal conversation at an airport bar and not realize they hated each other on this forum.

pharmacists requiring people to show them ID

@Aphroman, since 2001, federal law (USA "Patriot Act") has required pharmacists to keep behind the counter, and to document ID before selling, any decongestant containing pseudoephedrine. It is part of the "war on drugs," so I am surprised you did not know about it. Pharmacists, including at Walgreens among others, maintain a log including of IDs. For example, in the case of driver's licenses, Walgreens pharmacists log the license number.

Other drugs can also require ID, depending on the state.

Your comment referencing multiple pharmacies surprised me for another reason also: errc seemed to believe that healthy diet and cannabis would suffice to protect health, so I hope you and yours are OK.
