California's economy has surpassed that of the United Kingdom to become the world's fifth largest, according to new federal data made public Friday.

California's gross domestic product rose by $127 billion from 2016 to 2017, surpassing $2.7 trillion, the data said. Meanwhile, the U.K.'s economic output slightly shrank over that time when measured in U.S. dollars, due in part to exchange rate fluctuations.

There is no stopping this incredible State.

Except that it's legal to see hoes in Britain, whereas the average Californian needs to go out to some Nevada desert circa San Bernadino.

When bums are overrunning the neighborhood, it’s hard to care about that.

Prior to FOSTA it was super easy to see ho’s in LA OC and IE. Illegal or legal was irrelevant using Humaniplex. And they were a helluva lot less than what you are paying. If you wanted way cheaper you could dumpster dive in the IE.

It’s more complicated now though. Still possible, but not as easy.

If so much is going on, why in the universe are our tax rates so high?

How can that be? It's well known that CA is a socialist hellhole occupied by illegals and SJW who spend all their time persecuting white males and collecting welfare. You guys need to get your story straight.

There are over half a million open jobs in California. Good luck finding some place to live while you work tho!

Every time I go up to the BA, I am surprised by all the vacant land I see. But you can't build there, you can't build here, you can't build up, you can't build, you can't build.
Where the fuck can you build?

Big economy - yes.

But also highest poverty rate in the country.

How do you square that? A state that is run top to bottom by Progressives who claim they are all concerned about income inequality.

Highest if you play games with cost of housing. All the NIMBY's keeping housing prices through the roof aren't progressive at all By income it's at 18. .. All of the conservative free market, low tax, small government states make up the top 17 for poverty. Along with being the sickest and least educated. How is that all working out? Make America Mississippi again.

Funny how many people don't realize socialism and government aren't synonyms. Usually the ones that are using lots of government services while complaining about government services. A libertarian is someone who believes government spends too much money on other people.

Time for a moratorium on jobs until housing catches up.

IT's all the fault of the liberals, the immigrants and Jerry Brown.

Dissonance alert!

List of countries in order of GDP:
- China
- USA
- India
- Japan
- Germany
- Russia
- Indonesia
- Brazil
- UK

Yes, I know, this is GDP at PPP, but this represents a glimpse of the close future in nominal terms.
The "West" thinks itself as the center of the world civilization. But it is no longer the center. It's already clear Asia is the center, or will be very soon. Nothing weird there: Asia had the largest economies for most of human history.

Comparing CA to the UK may give you a good feeling from a 19th century perspective but it shouldn't in the 21st century.

India is expected to surge ahead of France and UK in 2018 to become the 5th largest economy in nominal terms.

Notice also how the Libtard-controlled Wikipedia entry shows the old stats, not the new ones that correctly incorporate housing poverty info that anyone can get from the 2010 census. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._states_and_territories_by_poverty_rate

So get the stats and show us. I looked at the 2010 census and it looks like this.

Looks like an awful lot of red state poverty to me. Especially since eastern washington/oregon and norcal are actually red states that happen to be attached to a blue state. Anyone want to show where these mythical new stats are to be found?

No, that doesn't include HOUSING POVERTY census data. Nice cherry picking on your part, tho! Why are your posts SO FULL OF OUTRIGHT LIES?

When housing poverty is properly factored in, California moves up to the top of the list with the highest poverty rates in the nation...a rate of a whopping 20%!

The official census is full of outright lies. Sure whatever you say. Want to read the notes on supplemental poverty and tell me what they say? It's a guesstimate. Even your own article says so.

The Census uses data dating to 2011 to calculate the cost of living, so even the improved poverty rate could be underestimating how big a drain housing has been on California’s poor. The biggest jumps in housing costs—like those we’ve seen in Sacramento and other mid-size California cities in recent years—typically apply to a relatively small percentage of renters finding new apartments..

What exactly is the role of housing in California’s poverty problem? There are a couple ways to answer that question, none perfectly satisfactory.

None even close to perfectly satisfactory. Gee how many families of 4 at the poverty line do you suppose move into the bay area and LA every year and rent a market rate apartment? Duh. For the supplemental to work you would have to break it down district by district, not for an entire state that is 800 miles long with a population of 40 million. Plus know what every low income person is paying in rent. Good luck with that. Same applies to NY A lot of the poor in NY live well out of NYC and the high price suburbs that spike the housing costs for the entire state. Any clue what rents are in places upstate NY where a lot of poor people live?

Fell free to properly factor in housing poverty. Let us know how it works out. When do you estimate you will have that done by?

Even spiking the numbers for NY and CA with the housing guesstimate the red states are STILL most of the high poverty states.

Most States are not blessed with all of the natural beauty and natural resources that California has. Most of the major industry outside Silicon Valley like aerospace, agriculture and energy along with the water and transportation infrastructure to help it was put in place when California was still a Red State.

Leave it to the California morons to elect the Browns for nearly a quarter century and put super-majorities of bat-shit crazy Democrats in the Legislature and then scratch our heads why California has turned into an unlivable shit-hole for the majority of non-rich.

Actually, it's quite affordable in places like Montreal where it's actually legal.

And yes, whether or not it's legal matters.

Soo, what place on that scale will Mexico occupy once the annexation of California is complete?
