Some of you guys might remember that I traveled to several countries in Europe this summer with my wife and 18mo old daughter.

I remember vividly that no matter where we were, when I got on a train or bus while holding my daughter, people would quickly get up and offer their seat to me (I rarely took it). They did the same with the elderly. This was particularly prevalent in Eastern Europe (Poland). People would get up immediately without even asking if I wanted the seat. It existed in Western Europe, although not as dramatic.

Here in the Bay Area, people have no respect for that sort of thing. I'll jump on Bart or Caltrain under the same circumstances and nobody will even blink an eye. They are just buried in their phones and couldn't care less whether someone with a baby or an elderly person just stepped on the train.

Or when a fight breaks out here in the Bay Area, people take out their phones, watch, and videotape. A fight breaks out in Euope and people absolutely step in to stop it. I've seen in a number of times. Here people are too scared that someone will pull out a gun, too scared of getting hurt, too fearful of being sued.

I don't know whether it's the melting pot diversity, the cut-throat competition, the identity politics or what, but we've become a bunch of self absorbed selfish pricks here in the Bay Area.

I used to ride the bike car on Caltrain in the late 90s. I did it because I was poor. Poor as shit. I used to climb up to the 2nd level, put my helmet over my face and act like I was sleeping when the conductor came by. Most of the time he wouldn't ask to punch my ticket so I saved cash! haha

No internet devices back then. People would throw their bikes into the rack and gouge people's spokes with their peddles though. Oh! some homeless guy almost got in a fight with a British guy with bad teeth. The irony of the dirty ass homeless dude saying, "What's the matter with your teeth!?", "Have you been chewing on bark!?". Yeah, can't forget that. Good times!

Did you ride the London Underground? The tubes are awesome! Spent a week zipping around in those things.

I did see a lot of recessive genetic diseases though. I think they were mostly French tourists. One was absolutely adorable. Teenage blonde girl with her mom and grandma. Seriously looked just like a doll. Couldn't quit twitching though. Or touching things. Or mouthing words.

The interesting thing is that "diversity" is a religion in San Francisco. You must believe diversity is entirely good, or you are the very definition of evil around here. But diversity is quite provably a bad thing in most respects:

My only adult experience in San Francisco was when I was 18. Might have been 17 still. My parents mailed it in with me being the youngest. Five of us total (my buddies and I) went on a fucking epic 3 week cross country road trip leaving from the Chicago suburbs and heading out West after we graduated high school. I turned 18 somewhere on the trip, I just don't remember.

I'll remind you this was 3 weeks. We had weed. We had no trouble getting booze. We had a blast everywhere. Except San Francisco. This was 2001. Up and down the place had a bad vibe. We all wanted to go there and when we got there it was like a kick in the nuts. So many dumb ass mini stories of San Francisco from that trip.

Actually I think this form of assholery is far more prevalent a in lower social status tiers because they themselves are subject to it more often. On the other hand, while stationed with the British Army of the Rhine, I met some otherwise hot looking English girls who destroyed my desire to get my tongue in their mouths once they opened their mouths.

When I was in San Francisco in the early 2000s for a little while, I was walking up the escalator to the surface streets. Forget the name of the station, I think it was Powell st?

Anyway. I notice everyone is "hopping" right before they get onto the escalator. As my turn comes up, I notice it. A slightly under 1 foot human feces log laid right across the entrance to the escalator going up. I carefully step over, and get on. I watch behind me, and everyone is just hopping over it like it's normal.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, it could be "identity politics" or "tribalism", but the Bay Area, especially San Francisco has been a giant shit hole for many years. Out of all my travels during my career (and I've got a passport with the stamps to show it), San Francisco has to be one of the dirtiest, rudest, cities I've ever spent time within.

No one is born racist

@anonymous It's pleasant to believe that, but it is unfortunately provably false:

Babies show racial bias when picking playmates, a study suggests.

Infants aged 15 months normally choose a playmate who is perceived as being fair, sharing toys equally for example, regardless of that person’s colour.

But if a baby sees a person of the same race as them unfairly distribute toys in a way that benefits another of their race then the baby wants to be playmates with that person.

Babies are also more likely to help those of their ethnicity, an effect known as in-group bias, where people favour those with the same characteristics.

Researchers at the University of Washington in Seattle, noticed the phenomenon when the infants developed favourites during a previous experiment.

I've seen this a lot in Los Angeles lately too.

Government is too busy out there telling us we are all assholes and need to cater to homosexuals and transexual perverts. But can't find time to do something for elderly, mothers, etc... not even a peep.

Looked at your study report Patrick. Not sure I would use this as a reliable basis for anything given the number of participants, less than 200 unless I missed something. Has this been repeated anywhere or a larger group studied over time, Any other countries tried this ?

What I put up just keeps repeating itself, year after year.

On a secondary note, the world according to the people I grew up around was not quite the world I experienced once I left home and the area. Had it not been for the fact I read excessively growing up, I may have accepted the entire line of bullshit hook, line and sinker. Mercifully I knew there was more and something better outside of the narrow view of reality I grew up in. Life proved me to be correct but also correct in that the negatives I grew up around are alive and well and you do not have to look very far to find them.

Sounds a bit like platitudes. The reason people teach others prejudiced stuff is because the study cited by Patrick is the truth, and this is not the only study. For fucks sake you can even look at all couples in the world and you will DEFINITELY notice that a large percentage of these couples have very similar features (yes even the heterosexual ones) and many totally look alike, similar to people looking like their pets. It's normal, it's human nature. It's fucking normal to be a little racist and it's a GOOD thing as it is an instinctive protective reflex. Of course a lesser percentage find thrill in polar or exotic opposites and that kind of mating is necessary, too, for known evolutionary reasons. But anybody walking around with 2 open eyes in the world notices the natural instinctive bias towards their own race/culture and they also notice that virtually any country that goes against that via government policies goes to shit. Yes the US is a little melting pot but it was built by white religious Americans with the right mix of immigrants welcome as long as they accept American values. Change that secret sauce and the country will go to shit. Where have you wandered and found it to be oh-so different (unless the government imposed cultural marxism)?? Try and got to Japan and become one of them, let me know how it goes. Even if you learn perfect Japanese and all their customs you will never be one of them. So fucking what? Western Europe and the US contain/are the only leftoid regressive countries that actually beat themselves up over natural tribalism. The rest of the world is normal.

Interestingly I talked to a few big developers and this is supposedly the secret sauce of bay area success. And to some extent I buy that. The reason so many inventions come out of the bay area is because it's a surprising shithole (leftist) government and infrastructure wise. When you have a monopoly on cab medallions and public transportation is ruled by human feces and asshole bus drivers and guests, voila, Uber is born. When hotels stink, have shitty service and still charge $500/night voila, AirBnB is born. Doesn't mean it's a great place to live for a family, but if you make good $$ and manage to move say into nice Marin or sunset hoods (dominated by whites or Asians) into your own nice place, then it is a beautiful spot to live. And if you're younger and just hungry for work hard play hard you can do that here, too. And buy a shithole tiny studio near Twatter for $600! With all my criticism for the bay area, certainly a place with beautiful nature and climate, creative ideas and inspiration - sometimes exactly because of the shit ;)

No, it's totally consistent in multiple studies. Babies always prefer members of their own race. It's innate and universal. So you could truthfully say we are indeed born "racist".

Sorry about that, but it's a fact.

The videos you posted do show that people can further subdivide within their own race into in-groups and out-groups, but we all knew that. It's the basis of gangs, for example. The Mexican drug gangs all hate each other, but they are all Mexican.

Even kids, that's why moms tell their kids, "never go with a stranger, even if he is offering you candy and even if he looks like your uncle Frankie". Kids naturally stay away from people of foreign races, even foreign accents or smells. Nothing wrong with that, just nature. The more you grow up towards becoming a fully matured adult, the better you can identify people from foreign races or cultures that are good-willed towards you and you can take bigger risks, trips and adventures.

When Art Agnos was mayor of San Francisco in the late '80's, the city had a terrible homeless crisis. There were even homeless shanty towns surrounding city hall, and in the park across the street. Merchants were fuming as shoppers and tourists stayed away. Agnos was replaced by Frank Jordan, the chief of police in San Francisco who resigned to run for mayor. The Jordan administration came up with plans to move the homeless, including by ferry to house them on Angel Island. To this day, the rash of ferry sinkings has never been explained, but the homeless folks were removed.

Yeah but that's mostly cultural. Race-wise we are very close with Russians, they have mostly Eastern/Northern European and some Asian mark-up.

The two studies cited in the second link, comment 21 states clearly "The team doesn't believe this type of behavior is innate, but rather a result of not being exposed to faces of other-races early in life."

The team can believe what they will, the baby knows the moms (and dads) scent, heart-beat and features and that's where they gravitate towards. It's completely irrelevant when exactly this behavioral trait manifests, it's in any case extremely early on and a genetic-environmental feedback. Surely exposing the baby from the get-go to a different mother would still make it more comfortable towards her than towards a random stranger, but she could never compete with the original racial/cultural birth-mother.

My youngest daughter is blonde hair blue eyes, doesn’t look a thing like her half Asian mom (who favors her Asian mom), but she gravitated towards Asian ladies when she was a baby. I think it’s the mom, or maybe some combination of the mom and dad.

My sisters half Asian kid (married a Filipino man) looks very much like her dad with strong Asian features, and she wasn’t having much to do with her white uncle when she was a baby. And she didn’t like her Asian aunt either, only white ladies especially with blonde hair like her mom. That changed around three years old, and she got interested in us a bit.

Again, I think it’s a matter of imprinting, like baby ducks, whoever they imprint on becomes “familiar.”

It's amazing how far leftoid cultural-marxist globalist propaganda has penetrated society. I mean everyone who has some memories from early childhood remembers a slightly embarrassed Mom telling them not to be afraid of some friend of the family who was of a different race trying to play with you and be nicer to them instead when we naturally as kids were reacting extremely skittish towards people looking different from our parents. It's nature, yet there are people thinking babies are born without racial/cultural bias.

Nonsense. My family moved to a "better" neighborhood when I was about 6 or 7. I remember my playmates as "the kids" and nothing else. Was kind of surprised to look at my kindergarten class picture as an adult to realize I was almost the only little blonde white kid. There were no apparent race lines friendships formed along at this school. I think you're overestimating whatever natural aversion to different races you're suggesting here.

Early childhood. It goes away starting in school or kindergarten. But it always stays in your subconscious. My best friend in middle and high school was from the ivory coast. However still today I can feel a bit of that innate racism. Well some of it is also related to the crime stats by race which unfortunately are telling.
