Yes, that's a basic theme of the Muqaddimah, a book explaining political history, written in the 1300s:

The concept of "asabiyyah" (Arabic: "tribalism, clanism, communitarism", or in a modern context, "nationalism") is one of the best known aspects of the Muqaddimah. Ibn Khaldun uses the term asabiyyah to describe the bond of cohesion among humans in a group forming community. The bond, asabiyyah, exists at any level of civilization, from nomadic society to states and empires.[16] Asabiyyah is most strong in the nomadic phase, and decreases as civilization advances.[16] As this asabiyyah declines, another more compelling asabiyyah may take its place; thus, civilizations rise and fall, and history describes these cycles of asabiyyah as they play out.[16]

Ibn Khaldun argues that each dynasty has within itself the seeds of its own downfall. He explains that ruling houses tend to emerge on the peripheries of great empires and use the unity presented by those areas to their advantage in order to bring about a change in leadership. As the new rulers establish themselves at the center of their empire, they become increasingly lax and more concerned with maintaining their lifestyles. Thus, a new dynasty can emerge at the periphery of their control and effect a change in leadership, beginning the cycle anew.

As our elites continue to divide us with identity politics in order to maintain their lifestyles, they sow the seeds for their own eventual destruction.

Some group on the margins with much better unity will come in and take over America, unless we can re-establish a strong nationalistic unity first.

We can all scour the internet for some nonsense or other. It’s just stupid people flocking together to get a bit of reassurance. They obviously have to create a safe space as otherwise it’d just be constant ridicule. Their imposition of rules to quash any constructive discussion is about the only smart thing they did (for them at least).
Is your problem that this happened in a university? I don’t see too many faculty sitting there, so I’m not sure how accurate the title is. But hey, universities are supposed to be bastions of free speech (as you and others made the point of emphasizing on a number of occasions), so I guess that can’t be your problem. What is your problem with it? The fact that many people hold views that are utterly bonkers isn’t a surprise to anyone.

Actually I’ve just watched a small part of the whole thing, and sadly it seems this was the idea of some of the faculty. Some of them clearly need to refocus on what might be a better use of their and their students’ time.

The interesting thing is they just get stupider as they congregate rather than smarter, like going down an infinite, ever intensifying stupid feedback loop.
