I saw a screen shot of Mint the other day, then realized I could still do .Net developing in Linux.
I'm keen to get another laptop and set that sucker up. If it's good, I'll ditch MS in a heart beat.

I had never heard of Mint, but have used Ubuntu on a server for years. Looks like Mint and Ubuntu are 6 or 1/2 dozen, with Mint or Lubuntu getting the nod for older computers. They use a similar installer and both use apt and debian packages, so it isn't clear that one offers anything in particular that the other doesn't have.

Mint is lighter and better for older hardware. I don't like Unity and use classic gnome on my ubuntu machines. MATE on mint is very similar to classic gnome and works well also

There are still people using windows? How old school is that?

I'm an older white male software developer I'm the guy business owners call after their IT team of Liberal SJW's and affirmative action hires fucks his business up.

I'll probably peak when I retire.

Sure right. I'd love to see the code of someone who hasn't put together more than a dozen coherent sentences in 10 years of posting on patnet.

If you're in Higher education you're using a grading assessment algorithm created by me. Obama's DOE mandated a grading Rubric assessment but no egghead in academia had a clue on how to implement those guidelines in functional code.

Shhh don't tell them I dropped out in the 10th grade.

Huge Linux Mint Fan, running 18.1 Serena. Works like a charm. Been running Mint now for about 4 years on my main desktop.

I just got a new computer with Win10 on it, and I hate all the Fisher Price Primary Color Box Crap. They definitely designed Windows like a phone screen for some bizarre reason.

My Work Mac just refused to run Skype one day, because the OS was too old. Not "No More Updates", it flat out refused to run. So glad I'm not a Mac Slave-Schmuck, with my computer at the whim of new OS updates. You know MS would love to stop all XP machines from working, god knows how many people still have it running on their business computer. Imagine if Toyota could turn the radio or A/C off of any Corolla over 20 years old "Time to buy a new Toyota!"

Windows 7 was the best product ms built. Haven't liked anything else since.

XP was better than 7. 8.1 is better than 7 or 10 and even XP.

Windows 8.1 + Classic Start Menu + WinAreoKiller + a few registry tweaks = bliss

I call bullshit on this. If it's true, tell us in a nutshell, what were the requirements ? What does this algorithm do ?

Can you name an application that uses this algorithm.

Oh yeah xp was great

Completely hated 8 though.

One of us misses XP.
Better make that two.

Then you didn't configure it right.

When configured correctly, Windows 8.1 is simply Windows XP with better graphics and far better x64 support. No metro. No charms. No crapware.

Just rebooted a cheap Dell using LXLE(Lubuntu variant). Loving how well it's working. Was previously running ubuntu 14, but Unity.. 'nough said. I did have some issues trying to install using encrypt HDD option, but non-encrypted install worked fine.
