Darkest film ever made. I can now think of films like clockwork orange, sophie's choice, they shoot horses don't they, and elephant man as feel good films. The academy is already in love with it. Lots of awards coming up.

You would think that while spending 135 million to shoot the film they could have hired someone who had actual back country in the winter experience to make what happens when people are out in the cold and snow at least somewhat realistic. I guess hypothermia doesn't exist in hollywood. Love the scenes where they struggling through chest deep snow then step into the woods where the snow is magically just a dusting underfoot.

And with films...

The real anomaly about Hollywood is how they never make a conservative movie, instead they are incessant mouthpieces for department of compliance, hiding under the guise of being artists.

I liked it. It was gritty. The bear attack bit had me squirming and jerking in my seat. Always been afraid of being attacked by a bear and that is exactly how I thought it would go. Maybe more chewing. Icky.
Very sad in some places. Also felt gripped by suspense most of the way. I felt they were pretty fair to the native Americans in their portrayal: warrior society so yah they did their fair share of killing, ambushing, and fighting. And when they lost, we didn't treat them well, as shown by the slaughtered villages and the orphans begging for scraps outside the fort. That all feels true to me.
So yah, it's not a feel good movie, and is liable to upset some old hippies with its dark tone and ugly happenings, but it says something true, and that's rare. I did like the way it ended the revenge plot line. To me that made for a morality story that was worth telling.

I hate movies that has little to no dialog, or movies that take place in the same scene, or movies where scenes with just that one person is 80% of the story.

I wouldn't even watch it for free, and I like a good Leonardo flick. But I doubt this is one.

Oh and hindsight flashback movies are the worst. Not saying this is one, just putting it out there.

How exactly is a movie about someone attacked by a bear then hunting down the people that left him for dead either liberal or conservative? Some days you are just too weird for words. Medication problem?

It wasn't politically correct enough. It will led to anti-bear hatred.

Just because and animal chews you up and rapes you, doesn't mean it's a bad animal.

Free the Bears from discrimination!

I haven't seen it, I don't know. Primae Facie that movie wouldn't be, but the comment was they don't make any conservative movies. The last one I can think of was in the 1940s. IOW there are 40 million liberal movies to one conservative movie. Actually TV is much worse.

Nothing to add as usual. Does being inane ever bother you?

The bear wasn't nominated for an oscar or golden globe, a terrible injustice, but he did get an Adult Film XXX Honorable Mention.

I liked the bit about the monkeys. Sort of off topic, and not very relevant, but interesting.

It is relevant in that the artists are tacitally steered away from conservative ideas, it is palpable.
