I had awesome luck with the following:

- 1994 Ford Ranger V6 5-speed Ext-Cab: This thing went 200K miles with nearly zero maintenance. In that 200K miles it might have had the clutch done and the AC recharged (other than basics like tune-up, tires, and brakes). I sold it with 200K miles to a construction worker who bought it with the intent of it being his work truck.

- 1996 Mazda B2300 2.3L I4 5-speed: Just took abuse and never let me down. I sold her at 110K miles and everything worked great on that truck.

- 1993 Ford Mustang LX 5.0 V8 5-speed: The level of abuse this car took was out of this world. The durability was unmatched!

As far as the one that gave me problems:

- 1995 Lincoln Mark8: This was an incredibly comfortable car with a sweet high revving DOHC 4.6L V8. But the damn air suspension caused me an absurd amount of grief. I will never own one again and recommend that others steer clear unless you are willing to invest big bucks into restoring the suspension.

I am currently driving a 2001 Lexus GS430 and think it's a fine car. It has the same level of luxury I would expect from BMW/Benz but at half the maintenance cost. Plus, the styling is out of this world. I haven't had her long enough to draw any conclusions however.

90 Honda accord V6 wagon was a fantastic car, never gave me any problem till it got rear ended at 88K.

I love 89 Ford Probe 3.5 V6 I bought at 55K, really miss the car, and all those crazy things I did with it. By the way, it slides better than a sled on snow. I was living in western PA back then.

And about that 94 Ford Taurus, Like the size of it and hate the rest of it. Color washed and cracked dash board was something I've never seen in other vehicles in this class.

03 Civic is still running strong at 170K.

05 Toyota 4 runner is going strong as well at 130K.

My current beater, 99 Mercury cougar v6, is certainly the worst of all the cars I ever owned. Nice first 3years and then all sort of shit started happening. Never had a car with this many problems. I somehow managed it moving over 125K though, will see how long I can make out of it.

Any Vette lover here?

I've considered purchasing a C5 Vette because prices are reasonable and the LS1 platform has so much potential. These cars make about 340rwhp out of the box (a bit more for the Z06) and you can gain 60+rwhp with a simple cam swap, exhaust, and tuning. At 3200lbs, that makes for a lot of fun! And they already handle and brake phenomenal. At $10-15K used, it seems like a bargain. Until of course you get inside one and see that the interior has the same quality as a 20 year old Grand-Am Pontiac, my only gripe!

GM, you guys really screwed a lot of things up over the years but the cheap plastic 80s looking interiors take the cake.

Yes but if that interior DIDN'T look so cheezy would it still be on the used market at that price point?

I doubt it.

You can probably buy one with a trashed interior but otherwise sound condition and have a custom interior put in:

Did you see the post about the $Million SUV being released in China? I don't know your financial situation, but that's another way to go if you're into whale penis upholstery, for example. Not sure if it gets good gas mileage... and the shipping might be prohibitive. :)

I doubt any buyer of a million dollar car much cares about MPG or the price of fuel.

Heck such a buyer may run the thing on sperm whale oil just to be extra dickish.

My first car, was bad mechanically but good for a CERTAIN purpose:

2nd car was a 1965 Mustang, painted it Candy Apple Red.

LOL - not bad but this would have had more style:

Worst:86 Ford Escort

Went thru three engines. Had a habit of developing cracks in the aluminum heads. Cheaper to replace with a good junkyard engine/tranny. Inaccessible inner tie rod ends had to be torched out of the transaxle every two years or so. Fuel pumps went belly up so frequently that I carried a new spare pump and a 10mm wrench in the spare tire well. Even trained the wife to replace it. Which she had to do, herself, on a least two occasions. Was comfortable to ride and good on gas though.

Best:97 Toyota Corolla

Rides good, 30+ mileage. Had to replace the positive battery clamp. No other parts or repairs, just regular maintenance. Stay away from those ridiculous after sale add-ons though. Not worth the money and they never bring it up when appraising for trade in!

Best: Infiniti FX35 AWD, 2004, 160,000 miles and very little expense over basic services and tires. That ties with my 1989 Honda Prelude Si 4WS that I drove 154K miles until I traded it for a 1997 Ford Taurus SHO which was also a very good car I drove 94,000 miles.

Worst? That would sadly be the 2002 Audi A4 6-cyl I traded my Ford to buy. Lovely car, drove well especially in bad weather, but it spent 3-5 days in the shop every month for a seemingly endless train of electrical problems. I traded it just over two years later before it ran out of basic warranty.

I've always wanted a Corvette. I was thinking of getting a 2007-2009 Vette, but wife shot down that idea. Any Vette lover here?

Maybe compromise with a V8 MX-5?
