It only makes sense. They had a loyal following of patrons when they actually sold real food, that could be identified by taste alone. Then "Super size me" came out, they ditched the dollar menu, the super size stuff, used hamburger meat that could not be identified as such in a blind taste test, and put fruits and vegetables on their menu. Even went as far as to put granite counter tops, and stripper poles in all of their stores and changed the facade from the golden arches to the single Nike'esque Yellow swoosh and re-branded them selves as McCafe', to lure the "Gated Community crowd". It still wasn't enough, Mrs. Obama was blistering their ass as the sole evil source of the world as her husband was giving them Kudos for creating 80,000 jobs. (With federal pump monkey money no doubt) even though most stores are only doing one 10th of the business they were pre "Super Size Me".

In the meantime trendy places are popping up and making money hand over fist, that specialize in the biggest meanest baddest greasiest over priced bar burgers, and guess who the bulk of their patrons are? You guessed it, those same hypocrites that bitch about fat people and blamed McDonald's for all of America's ills, from the gated communities next to the Starbucks.

I just laugh every time I pass by an empty McDonald's, they bet on the wrong clientele. Those folks live in a do as I say not as we do world.

    From the article...

..."McDonald's Corp. reported a 3.5% decline in third-quarter earnings as sales slowed more dramatically than expected because of a sluggish economy and a disappointing marketing campaign."

Does Mickey D's accept EBT cards??? If not, that could contribute to their decline in sales...

For health reasons in the family I have been forced to buy organic vegetables from Wholefoods, what in the hell is wrong with YOU People?

$50.00 for two days worth of salad and juice greens!! Really? REALLY?
You liberals are really pathetic to thumb your noses down at people eating ALL they can afford while gouging all edible vegetables.

A while back, I posted a break down of a Value Meal.

It's ALL CARBS and HYDROGENATED VEGETABLE OIL

The meat is about 10% of the calories; most of it is in the Fries and Coke.

Blame the Potatoes and the Drink, not the tiny slice of meat you get.

"You People", easy there..........because you not only are making some blind assumption based upon nothing, but you make yourself out to be an extremist too. Fruit and vegetables are cheap and more nutricious compared to ANY fast-"food".

FYI, I'm calling bullshit on the amount that you supposedly spent on "salad and juice greens" also. And, if for some unreal reason those prices are actually true, why don't you grow your own salad and vegetables to make juice????? You couldn't get much more organic than that.

Uh.....no. The salad would be about the only thing that I would eat of those choices, but not from there because I really doubt how clean it really is, not to mention all the chemicals that have been applied to it/uptake to meet a MC-D contract schedule and quota.

And, a very large fresh head of lettuce sells for $1,00-$1.50, so why pay 2-3 times that for a small amount of it, other than convenience/laziness?

A whole head of Iceberg lettuce has the nutritional value of a postage stamp.

Romaine, Boston, Mesclun, Oak Leaf and the other salad green variety on the other hand do pack some vitamins and minerals. They are hardly found in your supper market for $1.00-$1.50.

Though that's not what Americans think of when they think of Lettuce.

LOL, so which one sells the most and is the most readily available then?????

And, you can also grow those types of lettuce EASIER and much faster than Iceberg too! You can grow it in small pots or in the ground, and it even grows during the winter in an enclosed container outside!!

    Really grow my own lettuce?
What am I supposed to eat while my huge crop of lettuce in a few sparse pots on my patio are not only growing but maturing. And after that initial harvest of one family sized salad, what are we supposed to eat after that?

You remind of me of those clowns that convert their cars to Bio Diesel then advocating run around town "Stealing" vegetable oil from restaurants.
The laws broken aside, what are people supposed to do, the rest of the week when there isn't a supply of vegetable oil to rob?

Also if everyone did it, then there would be a good supply of Oil to steal.

I know you feel the need to make a purpose out of your life, but you'll need to do better than touting the virtues of growing lettuce.

If you can't figure it out, you deserve to pay a ficticious $50 bucks for salad greens. Is your shunt clogged?????

Is this stuff for juicing? Are you doing some sort of vegetable (type) fast ?

$50 is high for two days, but if you're juicing, it doesn't go very far.

It does sound out of whack(over $9000.00 p/yr) but who cares, it's his money. And that doesn't include the Ronco juice-a-matic either.

A fool and his money are soon parted.

But, he should be a lot healthier than the slobs eating MC-d crap that I referred to above that he came so unhinged about.

You should look up farmers markets in your area. Much of the offerings will be organically grown, you can buy a lot, and the prices won't be WholeFoods inflated. They have the best produce, but you will pay for it. Also they have super high prices on ordinary things that are labelled organic.

I can't get the original WSJ article to come up. Why are we to believe that changing from the Dollar Menu to the Value Menu is the true explanation for their 3.5% drop in profits? The article is correlation->causation.

Another article I saw when searching said it was greater competition and the strong dollar.

It reminds me of much financial punditry, the market is down today must be (spins wheel)..... SUNSPOTS!

I sometimes reflect, that if Paulistas get their way a dollar will buy lobster for a family of four.

    NO it really doesn't.

Organic - Kale several varieties, spinach, beets, carrots, celery, raspberries, strawberries, broccoli, pineapple, Apples.
The shit aint cheap. each time runs from 3.99 to 5.99, if upsidedown was turn rightside up and actually step foot in a Wholefoods he would know. It's just easier to flame and over use the question mark I guess...

You're amusing. I make a comment about the crap that passes for food at Mc-D, and you whined about it. Then you proceed to try and convince me and everyone else here that you spend $50 every 2 days for salad and vegetables to "juice". Great, good for you that you eat healthy, I really don't care if you do, or don't. But where it becomes amusing is that you took some sort of moronic stance of defending said crap food from Mc-D like it was personal, and somehow imply that you would rather eat it than your supposed "greens and juice" diet. That's some great theory and rational thought process that you possess.

You might spend $50 every 2 days but I really doubt it, but I must also tell you that I do not care if you actually do. You (alledgedly) willingly went to the store and put whatever produce in a cart and voluntarilly paid for it. The last that I heard no state or government or criminal element of ANY type has forced people to buy overpriced salad greens and vegeatbles at Whole Foods.

Maybe you're just the world's worst shopper.

Easy Jim I don't care if you believe me or not, in fact I'm tickled pink if you don't. I really don't care, Unlike you and your ilk I'm not here to hammer my views home to people and argue with everyone that disagrees with me. I'll defend what I've said, which I don't understand why I'm always having to with YOU people.
What in the Hell do you folks Win at the end of the day?

I can give two shits if you don't believe that I'm spending AT LEAST $50 a pop when I go to wholefoods to buy my wife organic juicing and salad vegetables because the doctors found a cervical mass.
But I would kindly invite you to fuck off already.

I forget that the OP is just some blog news service, and didn't actually post. Money manager or blogger and extremist author, but all 3?

LOL, what a joke you are. Nice ending sentiment too, as it matches your overall persona. You make some ridiculous claim and when you're called on it, you reply with the usual victim response and then procede to double-down with some made up health problem to get some sort of sympathy. Typical move by a delusional right winger, as a matter of fact I was surprised that you didn't go there sooner.

How does eating salads and veggie juice affect a "cervical mass"? Never mind, I don't really want to know any more than I believe that you even have a cervical mass.

You should be ashamed of yourself but of course you won't be, with no surprise and shock to everyone.
