I'd there supposed to be a link here that I am not seeing?

Some observations: The guy has no kids. He eats out (says he never cooks). He drops his dirty clothes off at the laundromat and picks them up (if we left clothes at the laundromats here they would be thrown away, so I assume he uses some kind of laundry service). Basically he has a hotel room going on there and calls it a home.
Good for him with the low-carbon footprint and all. I'll be one of the selfish, unenlightened ones out here in the hinterlands enjoying fresh tomatoes from the garden, watching the kids run around and swim, clinging to my old-fashioned washing machine and kitchen range. No bars on the windows but lots of clutter.

I don't call 275 sq. ft. at $2,400 a month scaling back. I call it a new type of poverty.
"A few blocks away, S. Hunie Kwon, a broker with Prudential Douglas Elliman, showed off a 275-square-foot studio on the market for $339,000. It would fetch more if it didn't require walking up five flights of stairs."
His final quote, "The cultural shift toward minimizing is not just about cars or cellphones," he said. "It's about the idea that super-abundance is a kind of selfishness our country can't afford anymore."

For many people, there is no utility in all the excess sq ft. I could envision living in a 14 x 20 room, if I was in a big happening city with stuff to do all the time.
Not sure why someone would get raped to "own" something like that, I would only entertain renting in that situation.
And id expect it to be 500$ per month tops, with whatever utilities you'd need included

Word!
Elyanow eats out most of the time. "I don't think I've used the oven since I moved in," he said, underscoring what tiny living fans say is key to success: making the outside world a natural extension of your home life.
So what's the next big thing for NYC? - Outhouses!
And when the land is too valuable to waste on outhouses? Foliage!
Sometimes retro ISN'T a good thing.

This is a depressing vision of the future: the American middle class reduced to peonage and living in what is at best cramped dorm rooms (stacked like sardines, China-style).

It all depends what one wants out of their brief life here on Earth. “Cube Life” offers few opportunities. It’s like living in a large bread truck or moving van.

Just go a little bit further and you'll reach prison cell sizes. I've heard you can get one of those for free and you'll never have to work again in your life. Retire in style and be waited on. Private prison companies want your business.
You're neighbors might be assholes, so look for the solidarity confinement option.

Just a reminder why you have to live in 275 sq. ft.

This is a rather horrific existence and I find the reason that to live this way is because of desire to diminish carbon footprint to be a classic Freudian reaction formation defense mechanism.

It is poverty, but don't tell the democrats that. Anyway, what poor person could afford $2400/month rent?

I honestly don't understand why someone would pay this much in rent for this ridiculous cage when there are so many alternatives in nearby cities in the greater bay area. Shoot, I would rather drive in from Lathrop than pay that much to be in "the middle of it all." Like they say in sports - "Overrated!!!"

Are you saying you have a very low cost energy efficient low carbon footprint residence on water front property?
