    I'm wondering what will happen to libraries now that eBooks are catching on. I can't remember the last time I read a paperbook.

    This is liberal bs.

    So the government gives huge massive pensions and benefits.

    Then they are broke and as always choose to shutdown the one thing they do people actually care about if taxes dont go up to cover the hole the high salaries and pensions put in the budget.

    So the real issue of pensions and salaries is never addressed its alwasy 'save the schools, save the libraries, save the hubble telescope'. BS.

    Glenn Beck, railing against government role in providing in education:

    "We also have the responsibility to understand we are accountable for each of those choices. You go to school, you rack up a lot of school loans, that was your choice. We also have to understand that those choices have eternal consequences. And consequences that ripple throughout society…If you can’t afford to go to college, go to the free public library. I did it. It works."

    That's greed and corruption, not liberalism. Conservatives are fully capable of both too.

    So in the future will there be Kindle burnings?
    Their very name suggest they'll make a pretty good fire.

    Both my brothers are govt. workers and they are both very conservative. I am a successful business owner and I am progressive.

    I use the local public library a lot, and I have greatly benefited from the services they provide. I see a lot of underprivileged people getting access to services(Computer, printer, Intenet, publications etc) that would be beyond their reach otherwise.
    So that's a big plus of having public libraries.

    But on the other hand, I have seen some neighboring towns that have multiple libraries!!! And to top that the population of that town is less than mine!! SO here you have a good point to show waste of public money.

    When it comes to libraries, parks and other public services provided by local government, I have seen very varied efficiencies in running these services.

    I actually use the public library for many things aside from books:

    * free wifi and a place to sit
    * DVD rentals
    * Wall Street Journal
    * certain for-pay websites they give access to for free (ancestry.com for example)

    And I also always have at least one book checked out to read at night. They have a pretty good selection of recent books on economics and politics.

    I love the library and think it's an excellent use of tax money, a huge public benefit that the private sector fails to provide.

    Yes I mean, really! There are absolutely no poor people who don't have Kindles and iPads and an unlimited budget for ebooks, especially since we haven't raised minimum wages in years....

    What I see in my town is, as soon as people get OLD and no longer have kids of their own in town, they immediately want to stop paying for schools and libraries. "Well I'M not using it, get off my lawn!"

    The department of defense has 63% of the federal employees. Everyone knows the vast majority of military people as well as dod civilian employees are liberal dems. God only knows how many people are employed by alphabet soup of security agencies, also all commie pinko liberals. Government employee is not a synonymous term with liberal democrat believe it or not.
