You see, when Bill Maher makes a joke about politics, his joke reveals what's absurd and why. His joke actually makes a point. Your joke doesn't. And as such, it does nothing to counter what Maher has said.

Religion, like racism, does not end by curing the infected. A lifelong racist will never cease being a racist. A lifelong superstitious person will never cease being superstitious.
The solution is to prevent the virus from infecting the next generation. Gen X, with few exceptions, never accepted the racism of previous generations. As a result, neither Gen X nor the Millennials accept racism. The same is happening, albeit more slowly, for religion.
So the good news is that in the future, politicians will have one fewer tools to enact evil policies. It may only be one tool, but it is a highly used and effective one, so eliminating it will be a great accomplishment and the world will be much better off.

Otherwise, to be at the very least consistent if not respectful of the bible and its teachings in the OT, they'd be also required to: have rape victims marry their rapers, don't cut your hair or shave, banish a married couple if they have sex on the women's period, ban the lame and blind and flat nosed from going near God's altars, kill all non believers and their kids too, etc.

There is plenty of hypocrisy in CA leftists. I don't like to call them liberals because they believe in liberty about as much as conservatives believe in conservation.
Here's an example. The Oakland Tribune ran an article bashing a men's only golf club saying it was absolutely sexist and unacceptable for there to be an all male golf club. The very next day it ran an advertisement for an all women's golf club.
Obviously both men and women need time away from the opposite sex to do some same gender bonding. There is nothing wrong with some recreational activities being open to a single gender. Heck, there are women only gyms, and they serve a purpose. They keep the gym about exercising, not picking up, and allow the customers to work out without feeling self-conscious. So, clearly the Oakland Tribune was being hypocritical in that case.
However, the hypocrisy I've illustrated above applies to the Oakland Tribune, not Bill Maher. As such it is not a counterargument to what he said in this video or about him in general. Neither is your vague complaint about CA liberals.

I don't have a clip, but I know that on both his shows he has stated that it is ok, even expected, that any half-intelligent person will change his opinions as he learns new things and gains experience. And, I agree that people should change their stances on issues when more understanding of the subject matter is gained. There's a big difference between doing that and jumping on a bandwagon.

Finally, you failed to address anything at all that Bill Maher said in the above video. You have not refuted a single point he made.
So, you've failed this test. However, I'm willing to throw out the results and let you retake it. After all, I'm looking for improvement, not getting it right the first time. So, study up on Logical Fallacies and try again. This time address what Maher has said in the video, rather than attacking Maher. Attack the argument, not the person.
Come on, you work in the software industry. You should know that everything I've said in this comment is spot on. You know what you have to do now. So treat Maher's speech like a program and look for bugs in it.

As for the Dennis Miller video, I couldn't follow most of what Miller was saying. He needs to enunciate and speak more clearly or I'll need a translation to English.
The first two minutes are about some professor whose name I couldn't get. Since the video doesn't show what they are talking about, I cannot comment on it. All that Miller says is that O'Reilly trashed him in a debate. Maybe so, but that doesn't tell me anything about what the debate was about.
Miller states that the left hates Palin. This is true. The left sees Palin as a lame attempt to get female votes after Hillary lost the primary to Obama. McCain thought that any woman would do, regardless of her lack of intelligence, understanding, or even basic American history knowledge. Oh, please ask me to provide links to support Palin's wacky ass view of American history and the third grade facts she gets wrong. Please do.
Miller continues that the women on the left hate Palin because "it appears she has a great sex life" and the leftist women's husbands haven't been aroused in a long time. Actually, leftist women who are single also hate Palin, and we all know how much sex they are having since they need health insurance to pay for their massive birth control needs -- evidently the number of "the pill" you have to take is directly proportional to the amount of sex you're having.
Second, the left is disgusted with the utter incompetence of Palin and the fact that she would have been a heartbeat away from being president and having the nuclear codes. To the left, this seems absurd, but it is disgust not hatred. The left doesn't hate Palin with the white-hot intensity of a thousand suns the way that the right hates Hilary Clinton. No, the left hates Bush and Cheney that way, but not Palin. She's an absurd joke to the left.
Perhaps the left hates Ann Coulter the way the right hates Hilary, but the left doesn't consider Ann Coulter to be a bimbo.
Third, the left thinks that the right needs to get laid more often. The left would be glad if the right got laid because it might cause them to stop being so damn angry at the rest of the world and starting wars.
Miller continues, women are mean to other women. True. Men are also mean to other men for the exact same reason: intrasexual competition for mates. However, I don't see how this applies to old women running for president / vice president as they aren't sexual competition. And in the least, it would apply to both the left and the right.
Next Miller does some rant on Obama being smart that I didn't quite get what he was trying to say and continues to say that he'll still hope that Obama will be a good president for America's sake. I certainly was hoping Obama would be good too, even though I didn't have high hopes for him. I was hoping Bush would be good too. And certainly Maher takes the same position and he stood up for getting behind Bush when Bush first took office. Maher kept saying, "hey, he's our president now, let's pull together", and then Bush kept fucking things up so bad, Maher finally started berating him.
I'll give Dennis Miller the benefit of the doubt that he truly wanted Obama to succeed for America's sake. However, clearly the Republicans in the Senate and the House are more than willing to sabotage America to prevent Obama from being re-elected. The Republicans have obstructed many of their own ideas in order to prevent problems from being solved during the Obama presidency including the economy and health care. Still, this is not a reflection on Dennis Miller, but it's worth pointing out that Miller doesn't represent Fox News or the Republican politicians in Congress in this matter.
Next Miller credits Bush for preventing a terrorist attack in the U.S. since 9/11. I disagree with his assertion. The only thing it would have taken to prevent 9/11 from happening was just one of the following two things. Either lock the door to the cockpit or let the passengers fight terrorists without fear of legal prosecution. Both of which were changed after 9/11.
First, on the lock door issue... Why the hell wasn't the cockpit inaccessible before 9/11? Hell, some drunk in first class could decide he'll do a better job flying the plan and burst in the cockpit. That alone justifies putting a lock on the door. And that in itself would prevent 9/11 from happening. This has nothing to do with Bush.
Second, on the legal prosecution issue... On every flight, there are at least 20 able body men who would be more than capable of kicking some terrorist ass when the terrorist is armed with only box cutters. I guarantee you that on those flights there were men saying, "Man, I could easily kick these guys asses, but if I do, I'll get arrested and thrown in prison for 20 years for endangering the flight, so I have to just sit here and wait for this to play out." Well, that attitude is gone now that people no longer assume the terrorists want to make it out alive. And again, this has nothing to do with Bush.
9/11 succeeded only because we had unlocked cockpit doors and the policy of trying to negotiate with hijackers instead of letting the passengers kick their asses.
Third, even if Bush had been responsible for preventing terrorists from striking against the U.S., his methods are far worse than terrorism. As I've stated several times before, terrorism is a threat blown way out of proportion. You are far more likely to be killed in an automobile accident or by a cop than by a terrorist. And the complete disintegration of basic human and civil rights is not an acceptable trade-off for the security theater we have in place called the TSA. Hell, even if it were real security, it would not be worth the human rights violations and the loss of basic rights we've endured. If you are willing to trade liberty for security, all you need to do is get sentenced to a maximum security prison. You'll be one of the most secure people on the planet, even more secure than the president.
O'Reilly states that he didn't watch Bush enough, but he will watch Obama, trying to be far and balanced about it.
First, it is an understatement to say that O'Reilly didn't report on Bush critically enough. Second, it is O'Reilly and other news anchor's / editorials job to watch politicians. That's the whole purpose of the free press. The problem is that they don't.
The crap that Fox News including O'Reilly report are non-issues designed to tear down the Democrats while ignoring all the crimes committed by Republicans. Now, there are plenty of crimes committed by Obama, but they are mostly the same crimes as committed by Bush and advocated by almost every Republican politician, so Fox News doesn't want to report on them. That's not fair and balance, and it's not doing the press's job of disinfecting government with sunlight.
In response to being asked if he would be skeptical, Miller stated that he is always skeptical of people who want to be president. Fair enough. I agree with this and would expand skepticism to be applicable to everything. Skepticism is a good thing. Actually, Bill Maher said this exact same thing in a few of his shows.
Miller states that if Obama wants to earn his respect, he should flatten these punks at AIG. I totally agree, but the Republicans are all for the bailouts as well and so was Bush. It's hypocritical to criticize the Democrats or Obama for the bailouts without criticizing the Republicans as well. Now perhaps Miller didn't know Bush and Republicans currently in office are for the bailouts, but if so, he is ill-informed. Republicans are very much for corporate welfare and bailing out big businesses, particularly the ones who lobby Republicans.
Now perhaps Dennis Miller does believe in economic Darwinism as I do, but if so, he is in disagreement with the practices of the vast majority of elected Republican officials. I've always said that Republicans wouldn't be bad if they actually believed in what they say they believe in.
Finally, on humor, I will give Miller props for having a few jokes including the last one about Barney Frank. But he's not on the same level as Maher or Stewart or Colbert. The funniest dialog I've ever seen is Ricky Gervais on The Daily Show talking about pandas. The witty repartee between Gervais and Stewart is a masterpiece of temporaneous speaking that works on both intellectual and testicular level. You'll have to go to The Daily Show website to see that though because it's too long for a far use clip.

That's what in depth analysis is like. Any debate is composed of at least two sides and each side makes a series of points. If you want to convince the audience that the opponent's point X is wrong, you state X is wrong because of Y. Y is your counterpoint. You repeat this process for each point you wish to refute.
Your opponent then either concedes the point or address your counterpoint Y with his rebuttal Z. He repeats this process for each point you refuted with a counterpoint. That is the definition of debate.
It's the right way to resolve issues. A lot of people have said Bill Maher is a liberal, douchebag who is always wrong. Not a single one of them has given a reason why or has refuted any of the points Maher made in the video that started this thread.
Now, I'm as open minded as can be, but if you say Maher is an idiot and don't back it up with anything at all, I'm not going to accept your assertion, especially when I see him make a good case that Christian fundamentalist completely disagree with the core moral beliefs of Christ.
On one side, I have a coherent and sensible argument presented by Maher, and on the other side I have name calling with nothing to back it up.

I have never heard Bill Maher make the political claim that being white is bad. I think you are injecting that.
Bill Maher has said on the record that he, unlike many liberals, has the balls to say that some cultures are better than others. American culture is better than the Middle Eastern culture that treats women like property and honor kills them if they get raped. So, Bill Maher certainly does stand up for American culture when it is on the right side, but he also criticizes it when it is wrong. And isn't that the right thing to do?

I think the so-called health care reform is a terrible joke that gave big insurance everything they wanted, is Unconstitutional since it is essentially a tax passed by the Senate rather than the House, is a step backwards, and has prevented real reform from happening.
The only solution to the health care crisis is to kill all big insurance. It's not the only thing that needs to be done, but it is the first thing that needs to be done.

The worst tax is the inflation tax. Obama is no better or worse than Republicans on the inflation tax. Democrats raise taxes on the multi-millionaires,most of which are parasites not producers. Republicans toss a few pennies to the poor while giving millions to tens of millions to each billionaire, all the while making life more difficult for the poor and middle class.
Both Democrats and Republicans fuck the middle class, but Republicans are worse, they don't use lubricant.

This is based on nothing but sheer propaganda.
1) You have demand in China and India
2) War and disruptions in the Sudan, causing major decreases in Chinas oil imports
3) Blockade of Iran
and so on,
But the dim bulbs actually believe that if Federal regulations effect one pipeline in this country it makes this a factor that supercedes all the others (that are 10 time more important) in pricing oil.
If we are doomed, the real reason because of how readily the stupid public buy's Fox news and AM radio propaganda.

OPEC has said this again and again, funny how OPEC never once, ever in their whole history blamed speculators for the price of Oil. Until Bush and Bush Jr.(by that I really mean Bush Jr. and Obama)

It's a huge global market, with many participants. Yes, markets are affected by expectations, but any oil trader would tell you that what the federal government is doing now, and expectations about what they will do later this year are small factors.
Where as Chinas supply of 6% of their oil needs from Sudan, and blocking Iran's sales of oil, those are big factors regardless of right wing fantasies or propaganda.
As for China's growth being on the decline ? I seriously question whether you know what declining growth means. Hint: It means they are still growing and consuming more oil than previously. Just that it isn't increasing as fast as before.
When consumption increases faster than production, or even when expectations are that consumption will soon exceed production, this causes prices to go up.
It's a market.

well it would seem to me, if Obama wasn't trying to be such a Green Scam Schil and fuck the American poor and the struggling over by burdening them with astronomical energy prices, while laughing hardily in their face about it. Then Obama and his energy team would enact anti Oil speculator legislation that they them selves threatened to invoke on Bush, before the market backed off the inflationary pressures.
Now all Obama and the liberals in Washington have to do is enforce legislation they them selves wrote, when this was an issue because it was under Bush's watch. But under Obama, then "there's nothing we can do, our hands are tied" Bullshit they give us.
We're not idiots, if Obama would just demand that the laws already in place are enforced then I would have nothing to bitch about now would I. Because Obama would have done all he can do, or at least showed America he was even trying.

there's plenty of reasons to criticize obama. gas prices isn't one of them. if he had any control over gas prices they'd be pushed down to $2/gal to assure easy re-election. current gas prices are really bad for him. even if we assume the stupid conspiracy theories of the right wing talking heads is accurate you'd still have to assume that while obama is an evil genius that must be stopped he's also an absolute idiot who can't wait until his re-election is wrapped up to start his four-year gas price gouge.
we're exporting gas at record levels. that's capitalism in action. that's what people always say they want. people are still buying gas. who are we to tell gas companies how much they can charge or where they can sell their products?
basically, you can't complain about obama being a socialist with one breath and then complain he's not doing enough to lower gas prices with the next. it's illogical and inconsistent.
but personally, I lean socialist. I think everyone should be covered by medicare. I think there's public solutions to these kind of issues.

The President's power in this regard is greatly overstated. The drum-beating is coming from the MIC and from political elements domestic and foreign that want to use the USA as it's goon to beat up Iran. My perception is Obama has been trying to tone this down and finding it's like herding cats.

I just wish that instead of being able to print money, the Fed had to get it's money from a gasoline tax. Then the American public would give a rats ass about inflation because they could see them paying that tax every time they go to the pump.
Americans are so stupid, unless they can physically see the money leaving their pocket, the don't realize it's being taken by the Fed. And Americans have such short memories that they need to be reminded every week.
