Because the organizations who would have their incomes cut with your plan are. Simple as that and completely true.
You and I may be adequately intelligent and informed to demand those cuts, but the vast majority of voters aren't. They are successfully propagandized by hundreds of millions of dollars worth of marketing science and superficial, sensationalist mainstream "news" media coverage that prevents the typical, casually interested individual from knowing the truth. - On 7 Sep 2012

I wouldn't trust a word of that without investigating for myself. I always look at the "1" ratings for a book on Amazon. Here's an excerpt from review comment for “The True Story of the Bilderberg Group”:
"Are we so desperate for conspiracy theories that we throw out any criteria for proof? The BG wants to de-indstrialize the world by suppressing all scientific development'? Seriously people, you believe this?
